Fixed Castillian audio is available. I PM’d you a link. Yes, I think a new release of Star Wars Despecialized would be very helpful in my department 😉

If I may ask, why are L8wrtr’s prequel edits (and only L8wrtr’s edits, among the various available) listed on the Ultimate Guide?

What Ultimate Guide?

The Ultimate Introductory Guide.

Nitpicker, stop picking nits. 😉

I went to a relative’s house tonight for a family get-together because my cousin was in town. My cousin works at Disney, on the software for Disney Movies Anywhere.

I was talking to him about Star Wars, and he told me about how, a week before TFA came out, people in his office there at Disney dragged a bunch of chairs and couches from various conference rooms into one large room and watched all 6 Star Wars movies on a projector.

And when they watched the Original Trilogy, they watched Harmy’s Despecialized Editions. In an office at Disney.

No joke.

He also said that it was his understanding that an 8k scan had been done of the OUT. I asked if it was from the original negative, and he said he didn’t know if it was from the actual original negative, but at the very least it would only have been within a couple generations from the o-neg, which is certainly closer than the prints our community have been using.

He did agree that a major sticking point is the fact that Fox owns eternal distribution rights to Star Wars (aka. A New Hope), and it was for that same reason that Disney Movies Anywhere (the software he develops) does not include that particular movie in its catalogue.

But, and I reiterate this, he already knew about Harmy’s Despecialized Editions before I said anything. I gave Q2s Prequels and Harmy’s DE to a relative for his birthday on that day (whose 14yo daughter said she had never seen any SW movies), and when I explained the OT was the original versions, my cousin asked if they were Harmy’s.

Wow, that’s a pretty impressive story; whether the hearsay of an 8k scan of any version of it holds any water or not. It is fun that Disney peeons who more than just have access to the current digital SE releases chose to watch Harmy’s version in the run up to TFA, in a Disney office.

This totally lines up with what I’ve heard from my people within Disney. Except I haven’t heard that the scans were 8K, but then again I wasn’t told what resolution they were in.

As always take all of this with a grain of salt, but having multiple people hearing similar things from different people within Disney certainly does a lot to boost my confidence.

As for them having watched the despecialized editions, that’s hardly surprising to me. Everyone I’ve ever met within lucasfilm, Disney, etc. all love the original versions as much as any of us. We gotta remember, it was George who refused to release the originals, not anyone within lucasfilm or Disney.

That is amazing. Now that people are out from under the thumb of Uncle George maybe they’re realizing that the non-SE versions of the OT are the only ones worth watching.

Well, with the untimely demise of Team Negative1 I’m afraid Harmy’s Despecialized 3.0 will be the closest we’ll ever get to watching a copy of the Technicolor print.

Jesus, people still need help after reading that?

So it is a little weird to include links to a prequel trilogy edit in it, I’m guessing this HanDuet guy did it without Harmy noticing.

Most TV do overscan and sightly zoomin the picture (to avoid seeing garbage border often present in HDTV broadcast)

It’s probably under your TV advance setting and may have different name.

On mine it’s call HD size. and the option is only for 1080p, overscan on 720p on my set is forced unfortunately.

Also make sure that the format option of your TV is set to “original” or “just scan” or something similar.

Would I get a warning from Verizon fios for downloading the Despecialized Editions since the file size is huge? Also can I stream it from my pc to tv via chromecast?

ISPs have absolutely no business dictating how large of files you are allowed to download. That said, for many Comcast jurisdictions, you would be using almost 10% of your monthly cap. As far as I know, Verizon is fully operating in the 21st century when it comes to stuff like caps (i.e., they don’t have them).

Chromecast doesn’t play MKVs and it doesn’t like DTS audio. So you’ll need to convert it to a format that works.

I’ve been using plex which will transcode it in real-time and send it to the chromecast. In the case of files that are supported but the container isn’t, it will simply remux them in real-time and direct play without transcoding on the local network.

Me too…although I get stuttering sometimes. I think that’s probably an issue with my network rather than Plex or Chromecast, however.

For those who are interested, today I will be muxing an mkv of my 1981 version of despecialized to post on the spleen. In case you want that version, but not necessarily the whole BD disc I’m authoring with all the bells and whistles.

It is based on Towne32’s regrade as a base with a few select scenes and sequences regraded by me and a recreated 1981 crawl/flyover spliced into the beginning. This recreated crawl and flyover is not perfect, but for general viewing purposes it works fairly well.

I did too until I turned off secure connections(SSL) in the server settings. Apparently, the chromecast can’t handle the secure connection with hd content. After I turned it off it’s been smooth sailing.

I was wondering, is there a way to re-label the audio tracks prior to authoring? Some of the language tracks are labeled, but not the other Dolby versions.

Yup. Load it up in MKVToolNix GUI. Rename as you please.
