I’ve gotta say, I didn’t really understand MV’s jab at the Silverscreen release.
I agree. Without an inflated ego -1 wouldn’t have begun the project in the first place.
If Disney/LFL passes on the 4K Legacy version for release on the 40th anniversary of ANH then they’re just as clueless now as they were when Uncle George was in charge. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever they could give for not putting that on store shelves(and in theaters for that matter) next year.
It’s not that simple they have to cooperate with Fox. Remember how long Blade Runner took to get a high quality restoration done and released? People wanted it done for the Film’s 20th anniversary, Ridley Scott wanted that, the film’s distributors wanted that, but it took another 4 years to sort through getting all the rights-holders to cooperate on it. The delay was ultimately a good thing for the restoration because technology had improved and the restoration that was done was a truly definitive version unlikely to be bettered any time soon - even now 10 years on.
Anyway, Legacy is not the only 4K restoration. There is also one done by Reliance Media Works, and that version hasn’t been release yet either - not even on DCP!
