It isn’t good to poke the bear this hard and display their ineptitude this publicly… At the same time, if they were to take down the distribution of a version of the film they don’t offer if they don’t have any plans they could admit to for their own upcoming release of the OUT, then there would be a backlash from pissed off fans they might not be prepared to handle (and hard questions they’re not prepared to answer). I have to assume Lucasfilm/Disney/Fox are not happy with how good fan-produced preservations are getting, compared to what they’re selling, but they may continue to steadfastly turn the other cheek until they make the inevitable decision to produce an OUT of their own, at which time they can C&D versions like this without coming across as the Devil to the fanbase they want to continue have happily buying their merchandise and buying their movie tickets.
On the other hand, they know what we want, but have to justify doing it, and if anything is going to make these companies agree to do it while they share rights, it might just take fervor over quality releases like this to push them over the edge to get off their butts and make the boatload of cash they’ve been leaving on the table.
