Can’t wait to see Kurt Russell as papa Quill!

Me too! Russell is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.

I sure hope it’s better than the last movie. Yeesh!

Snake Plissken finally got off world! 😉

And nobody around here has seen Deadpool yet? I found it amusing and sad the local news managed to find some annoyed parents who didn’t know it was a R rated film.

GOTG was well received around here. It even had it’s own thread for a while.

Eh, I wasn’t really a fan. I thought that the characters were boring, except for Quill, and the action scenes never grabbed me, despite being flashy and big. The villain was also very forgettable, I can’t even remember how he died, and Groot’s sacrifice was laughable. 2 out of 4.

Hey, I never said it was horrendous, just overrated.

I’m not a fan either. I loved the raccoon and Groot and the collection of 80’s music and that’s about it. To be honest I have seen the movie twice and the only things I remember from it were the mother having cancer scene, the fact that the blue man group expected the main hero to be grateful they didn’t eat him. I honestly don’t remember what it was about.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a horrible movie, the raccoon and the tree are just great, but it’s very forgettable. The same goes with the Thor movies - I liked them when I was watching them but the only thing I remember from the first movie is that the giant robot was destroying a New Mexico town and the only thing I remember from the second one was that it had the “Hello IT, have you tried turning it off and on again” guy in it.

All of my ratings for the MCU movies:

Iron Man: 3.5/4
The Incredible Hulk: 2.5/4
Iron Man 2: 2/4
Thor: 2/4
Captain America: The First Avenger: 3/4
The Avengers: 2.5/4
Iron Man 3: 3/4
Thor: The Dark World: 2/4
Captain America: The Winter Soldier: 4/4
Guardians of the Galaxy: 2/4
Avengers: Age of Ultron: 3/4
Ant-Man: 3/4

I don’t hate any of them. It’s just on the whole they aren’t the best.

GOTG is quite good and definitely one of the best Marvel movies, but I’ll agree it is a little overrated. Some were proclaiming it the second coming of Star Wars which was a bit silly.

They were more befuddled than angry. It was a pretty poor attempt at trying make a controversy. (Like those people offended that Toys R Us carries Slave Leia figures.) If a parent can’t comprehend and check a movie’s rating, it’s their own damn fault if they take the kids.

My only major problem with GOTG is the weak villain, but almost all of Marvel’s movie villains are just as forgettable anyway.

The Thor movies and the Iron Man sequels are the weakest movies by far. I just can’t stand any of those except maybe the first Thor if I feel generous.

Deadpool was pretty funny. (They even stole a gag from Frink!) Leave the kids at home, this movie revels in it’s R rating. Definitely stay through the closing credits.

Just saw Deadpool. Technically, it isn’t an MCU movie, but there isn’t a thread for non Marvel Studios films, so whatever. I found it mostly funny, though after the 27th penis joke I was feeling a little flat. The acting was pretty good, and I liked the fourth wall breaks. Deadpool himself was for the most part interesting but a little cliche with the get the girl plot. Action scenes were fantastic, who knew a gunfight on a bridge could be so fun to watch? Overall, a 3/4, wpuld definitely watch it again.

The opening credits alone give away the fact the movie is self aware of all the cliches within.

I liked how they got to the good stuff without making us wait a hour for the origin story to get there. A non linear storyline can be tricky to pull off.

Yeah, thankfully the director has had years of practice with that kind of stuff running Blur studios. They are hands down the best production house out there and I think it’s criminal that to date they’ve never done a feature film. Though I guess Deadpool kind of counts now. =P

From what I’ve read about the Deadpool movie, it’s a labour of love made by people who are actual fans of the character and respect the source material – unlike virtually all the other X-Men films.

For that reason alone, I’m interested in checking this movie out, even though I really have very little knowledge of the character himself.

After the financial black hole that the Fantastic Four reboot turned into last summer, Fox suits must be overcome with joy.

I think it’s hilarious that Fox was dragging their feet in the sand with Deadpool due to fears it wouldn’t sell. At one point they were going to call the film X-Men Origins: Deadpool because they though the film would need the X-Men brand to be successful. But then Deadpool made more money in its opening weekend than any X-Men film (or Fox film, for that matter) ever did.

Maybe the biggest impact we’ll see is an R-rated Wolverine film (they already seemed to be warming up to it with the hard PG-13 The Wolverine and its R-rated extended cut).
