It’s the scene where Yoda is in bacta tank and you hear Qui-Gon saying “No… This is not the way.” I placed this over the obnoxious “NOOO!” but I was not at all talented enough to make it work. All I was capable of was reducing the main audio and trying to insert the Clone Wars line, but the background music was just wrong. Plus, the calling out of Anakin’s name was a little too dramatic for the line that followed. I ended up scrapping it and keeping the line as it was but decided on cutting the scene on Mace Windu’s face as the Imperial March is in the background.

But I still I have a weird feeling that with a decent editor it could work. You get some authentic Liam Neeson… you get Qui-Gon seemingly expressing his disappointment in the path that Anakin is taking…

There is a very beautiful scene where it could fit, in Episode III, when Anakin is waiting alone in the jedi council that Palpatine gets arrested by Windu. At the beginning there is a voice over of the Palpatine speech about Padmé, just after you could insert as a “light” answer Qui-Gon’s “No… this is not the way Anakin…”. This is the scene when Anakin choices the path to join Palpatine, so it might work to get him conflicted between Palpatine’s lies and Qui-Gon’s wisdom. But you need to leave the rest of the scene completely musical, as it is in the theatrical cut (it may be the best scene of the entire prelogy: no dialogue, Anakin and Padmé deeply challenged by antagonist feelings, eerie shots of an infinite yet claustrophobic city, moving score on top of that, and a perfect montage : if the complete prelogy had been done that way, we would not need fan edit to fix everything wrong !).

(the best dialogues Lucas has ever written is when his characters don’t talk !)

Yeah heya… so I found episodes I and III via torrents and they seem to be the latest version (4.0). Is the episode II v4.0 also available somewhere (FanEdit)?

EDIT: Oops sorry. “That’s due to the best possible reason: I’m currently uploading the final version (V4). Episode II will soon follow.” Can’t wait to watch them all in a row. Thanks Hal!

sorry if it was asked but how is v4 of approaching storm coming along.

I’m encoding now, but have encountered a few technical issues getting the process to finish successfully. Still shouldn’t be over a week.
Sorry about the snarky gif.

Hal…you’re too kind…Respect

Anyway, thank you so much once again for making these movies something delightfully digestible! Keep up the good work! (in whatever else you also are doing to keep inspired and energized)

Congrats. The cut list is promising. It seems you didn’t do anything about the meadow scene (that I hate with all my heart 😃 ), but I wasn’t convinced at first by a few choices you’ve made on the other episodes before changing my mind about them, so I guess I might be convinced by this one when I see the complete movie. Your list doesn’t mention either the younglings scene, which was removed in your v3, hope it stays out of v4 as well !

I’m highly interested by the Schorman HDTV source, the blu ray quality wasn’t that great for this movie (EpII has never been as good looking as the other two anyway).

That must have been an oversight; the youngling scene is still very much removed.
Schorman’s source appears a bit ‘rougher,’ with more noise and varying levels of quality. But the colors are perfect.

Sometimes the scene one would think is the problem ends up working well when the film is changed around it.

I have started to make french subtitles (good work on your edit choices Hal, even if I think you might be a little bit more conservative than I thought, but for continuity reasons I understand why you’ve left some terrible dialogues here and there). There is something I’m not sure about: how to translate “you” in some scenes ? In the original french file of the movie (the translation used for dvd and bluray), Padmé uses the informal “you” to address Anakin (the equivalent is “tu”), while Anakin uses the formal “you” (equivalent: “vous”). (to help: http://www.french-linguistics.co.uk/grammar/tu_and_vous.shtml)

Should I use the same approach ? I was thinking of using the informal “you” for both of them. I mean, they are about the same age and their respective positions are not that different (young senator and padawan soon to be knighted). Besides, in EpI Anakin uses the informal “you” to talk to Padmé (but the formal “you” in the only scene he talks to the queen). So ? (is there another french bloke around to give his thoughts about it ?) (the issue is the same in german, so I would also take a german advice).

Well, I’ll decide it later, when I’m finished watching the movie (it may take a while). I took a look to the arrival on Naboo extended scene (I haven’t seen the film in years, even when the blu ray got released I merely checked a few scenes and then played frisbee with the disc) and… gosh… I forgot how terrible the acting and the dialogues were… the Coruscant part is way better now (Anakin is notably less a whiny piece of ****) but when it comes on Naboo, it’s still really painful (hopefully the kamino scenes are still cool enough). Curiously when the scene is back to the theatrical version the picture quality stays low. Why didn’t you use the HD material of the original version here ? (sorry if you have already explained your choice).

(I remember in France some papers stated when it was released in 2002 that “ATTACK OF THE CLONES is as good as THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK… maybe even better” … well… ok…) (3.5/5, I still don’t get it : http://www.allocine.fr/film/fichefilm-29014/critiques/presse/)

Because it never goes back to the theatrical version. The shot where R2 follows them up the stairs to the little bridge is not the same; the theatrical version has the shuttle parked right there, whereas the deleted scene had it park far away and is therefore missing from that shot. There was no part of the theatrical version that was able to be mixed with the deleted scene. Also, I just used straight upscaled DVD footage for the two establishing shots of landing on Naboo because they fall between two upscaled deleted scenes anyway.

Good luck with the subtitles. We’ve got a “Project TeeSeeFourteen” started, apparently.

V4, the final version of this endeavor, has been released. Look for it in the usual places, remembering it sometimes takes a while to appear on FanEdit.info. I’ll get the upscaled deleted scenes out to you all very soon, along with English and French versions of MalàStrana’s subtitles (or Project TeeSeeFourteen). I do also still hope to someday do an encode of V4 using Eman’s regrades when they get finished. Nonetheless, it’s done.

What are the major differences? (besides the addition of editor commentary)

For Episode II, the biggest one is the different primary video source. The transfer is far superior to the BluRay if you ask me, for the color alone.
There are nips and tucks, but I included an additional deleted scene (the extended arrival on Naboo), which also allowed for shuffling some of the order of scenes and use more of the original theatrical wipe transitions. Of course, there’s also better looking upscales for the deleted scenes.

That’s all the big things I can think of at the moment; I’m not sure myself anymore. I’d recommend getting it if you want to have these on your go-to list.

Can’t wait until this shows up on fanedit. I’ve really enjoyed this trilogy and am looking forward to having the definitive final version of each piece.

Thank you for your work on these, Hal 9000.

What kind of transfer are you talking about?

No offense, kid, but I don’t think you know how to boil water.
