Info & Help Wanted: CBS News re-broadcasts of the assassination of JFK...

CBS News has been live streaming some amazing, high quality footage as part of their 50th anniversary of the JFK.  Most of this stuff has never been seen since its original broadcast, and it’s doubtful that it will ever be broadcast again. I’m working on capturing as much as I can to put this into a preservation, but the stream is wonky and I get disconnects occasionally, resulting in gaps.  I might be able to fill in gaps from other footage on YOUTUBE, but the quality is far inferior.  Anyone else capturing?  Perhaps we can piece together a quality release of the entire 4 days.  So far, I’m aware of one other… Between the two of us we have day 1 and 2 about 80-85% captured.

I'm not able to capture, but this sounds like a really neat project.  I hope you get all the footage you need.

Thanks.  A lot of great material was aired, some really amazing stuff.   The transfers looked great.

Captured about 96% of day 2, 85% of day 3 and 99% of day 4.  I only have about 20% of day 1 though.  Anyone else manage to capture anything?

Having read for the past month on the internet about "capture" attempts that have failed, it's good to hear of your success in capturing  this.

Thanks for all your efforts for preserving this historic footage of a major tragic event in our history. I hope that you are able to acquire the "missing" stream footage from other sources.

I will continue my search as well, and I'll certainly let you know if I locate anone else who captured all/any of the  footage you're looking for.

This original TV coverage is worthy of an extensive and comprehensive archive available to all those with a great interest in the life, death and legacy of our nation's 35th president, John F. Kennedy.

Anyone know of a good unedited source for the first 90-120 minutes of day one's broadcast?  I haven't found a good source for it.  CBS's stream was in HD So mixing in Youtube or VHS capture is going to look like crap.

I realize this is a very old post, but if you are still around please reply. I have an extensive library of CBS JFK Assassination Coverage on DVD. The entire first day, and large portions or all of the ensuing 3 days. All the material I have was sourced from VHS transfers of the CBS masters. I’d love to work with you to incorporate some of your streaming captures to “complete” the set.

I would be very leery of this content. A lot of this footage has been edited and modified in the last 30 to 40 years. With the advent of home video recording in the early 1980’s I have noticed that there is a revisionist history of sorts.
The easiest example I can point to is the footage of the casket being unloaded from Air Force One at the return to Washington DC. Original footage showed that as the casket is being unloaded there was a helicopter taking off behind Air force One. I saw it many times and there is a photo of that scene either in David Lifton’s Book Best evidence or Bonar Menninger’s book Mortal Error. Last year I saw the the CBS rebroadcasts as they were being replayed on various cable and satellite channels and I was surprised to see that the helicopter was no longer in the shot. Now I being old enough to have seen the original broadcasts and many rebroadcast in the 60’s 70’s and early 1980’s , I know that that Helicopter was there. Now it’s like it never existed. Why is it gone? Because some conspiracy theorists claim that JFK’s body was in body bag and on that Helicopter and not in the casket. What gives the theory credence was recorded time of JFK’s autopsy at Bethesda Naval Hospital as noted by two FBI agents present. The agents present recorded the time in their note and The Autopsy was started before the casket had arrived at Bethesda. Just one of many odd things about that day that never added up.

The project was completed in 2014 and posted to the usual places.
