Hi, I know of at least 1 TV show that had different retail vs rental DVD versions where the rental version had more extras. What releases have exclusives to their rental versions? Thank you.

Star Wars was originally a rental exclusive, but I’m sure that’s not what you’re looking for.

There were often plenty of times where Theatrical Versions were exclusive to Rental editions while standard retail releases had only the Directors or uncut version of a film. The version that always jumps to mind first for me is Saw VII (Saw the Final Chapter). I had initially purchased the film used from Blockbuster and it wasn’t until a few years later that I realized I had a cut of the film that was never sold through standard retail channels.

In my experience most rental copies have literally no extras, not even a commentary.

Yeah. I’ve seen a few cases where the sale edition is DVD9 and has bonus features, the rental is DVD5 and barebones.

Dead or Alive (based on the video game) Blockbuster rental version has more extras.

Please, we need more examples because I’ve never seen this discussed and it’s so important now that DVD and DVD rental stores are going away.

Back in the day, the Blockbuster version of Requiem for a Dream was censored (and made note of it in the opening title).

Pretty sure the DVD wasn’t censored (because when I rented that it wasn’t edited) but the VHS I rented for a school project was.
