After downloading 97’ Respecialized I will download Episode VI 2.5! Great work!
Where did you get the original Latin audio?

The Latino audio for ROTJ was actually the easy one–it was on the Region 4 GOUT DVDs. Star Wars and Empire were harder–(mostly) 35mm capture and OTA television recording, respectively. ROTJ was stereo, which is probably why Lucasfilm didn’t try to bury it like the other mono Latino dubs.

Watched this last night, and good lord does it look wonderful. All of the 35mm stuff is integrated so much more smoothly than it was on the workprint. Now I’m really hoping that debated SW 2.6 actually happens, because this near-GOUTless wonder is so far ahead of the other two.

Actually, instead of making a v2.6 SW, I’m thinking about making v3.0 a quick 1080p update for all three movies. Essentially, for color correction just upscaling the 720p masters and applying it as a chroma (color) layer over the 1080p BD and replacing the Despecialized shots with just quick 1080p 35mm cleanups and then making v4.0 the final polished versions with new color corrections and more careful cleanup and rotoscoping and stuff (for SW, this would basically be almost the same as working on v2.6 and for the other two, it should be a fairly fast process, since by that point I should have all the 35mm shots ready at 1080p anyway).

“You must do what you feel is right, of course” If you’ve got the energy to revisit both V and VI again before you start v4.0, I’d say go for it. I would probably settle with 2.5 for V and VI and enjoy the hell out of SW v3.0 until the v4.0 trilogy is released. But then again I know how badly some people here long for 1080p 😉

I’m confused. What good would upscaling 720p be? Why not just start with the 1080p masters that we have?

It sounds like the chroma is being upscaled.

Isn’t that going to just cause confusion if a faux 1080P release is put out?

I agree with that, but am always happy to have more of Harmy’s releases. I think a pretty quick update for ESB and whatever within reason can be done to bring SW up to the new standards is fantastic.

For quick and dirty 1080p versions of V and VI, I think maybe only if the bulk of the work going into it is also moving things along for V4, as the resolution upgrade isn’t critical. But, whatever Harmy wants of course.

Was to the Castellano dub available on a Region 2 release, or was that sourced elsewhere?

Also, the NFO lists the Latino dub as 1.0 Mono for ROTJ.

If I had some gum, I’d chew a hole into the sun…

Another NFO mistake, I’m afraid, unless Harmy used a different track than I’ve got. Castellano tracks are from the GOUT, with a little weirdness on the track for Star Wars which is available as a fixed separate download–not sure how it happened exactly, but the Castellano and Latino mixes got merged for a while on that one, possibly a bad early GOUT pressing.

Any chance you can start making the MKVs anamorphic/without black bars in 2.6/3.0? I’ve got an ultrawide monitor coming in, and the current releases are non anamorphic so you get black borders on all sides. Not to mention, leaving black bars can lead to issues with the pixels in the surrounding border when encoding

Harmy’s always tried to make his encodes Blu-ray compliant in the past. I suspect the creation on non-compliant streams will be left to the re-encoders out there.

It’s important that they have the black bars for all the people who are burning these to BD without losing quality by re-encoding.

For the very few who want it bar-less, isn’t it easy enough to crop in real time using options in VLC, etc?

Thanks for reply. The other Region 4 Gout DVDS are in Spain spanish no?

Do. Or do not. There is no try…

Why should it be available on a public tracker? Why don’t you download it exactly the same way as all the other people?

Oh yes. As far as I know, the only ways you could get the Latino dubs for the other films was to record a TV broadcast, or snag a 35mm print. Luckily, we’ve done both 😉

Watched last night - it was such a pleasure to see Jedi in great quality without the atrocious SE additions and with a wonderful color grade!

I have to say that your color grading skills have come a long way since your first releases. I have actually looked forward to this the most since seeing your color treatment of ESB2.0.

Thanks again Harmy for your hard work and attention to detail to restore these films. I look forward to all your future releases.

Finally got 'round to burning the ISO to disc (up late last night with the Super Bowl and all that). It’s glorious. Harmy, you do amazing work!! Looking forward to completing the set and getting ESB 2.5.

SAF1916 for example: welcome to the forum! Always interesting to hear from a brand new fan who finds the CGI as off as we do.

Thanks towne32!
I was honestly surprised at how much the additions put me off. I’d always thought it was a bunch of crazy fans overblowing something small that really didn’t matter… Now I’m one of them.

Reasons to wish one could just find a public .torrent file and start downloading and seeding?

  • one’s last Myspleen account disappeared (even though they thought they seeded more than 1:1, maybe there’s a timeout?)

  • can’t seem to find a multi-part downloader that doesn’t arrive in a haze of pop-up windows and doesn’t have a whiff of malware/adware about it (the recommended ‘FreeRapid-0.9u4.dmg’ won’t mount on mac, if the response is to ‘Disable GateKeeper’s Unidentified App Developer Prevention’, as with JDownloader, that’s a no-go.

Not sure why these multipart .rar methods still exist, reminds me of late 90’s usenet.

But in any case, thanks for making these awesome historical preservation projects. Am not meaning to look a gift horse in the mouth, as it were.

Then how about a request for a proper full sized Blu-ray image, or a “master” sized MKV, like TN1 is planning? That way encoders could encode from a proper source, rather than a re-encode. I don’t mind encoding it myself, but an encode of an encode is never good

Thanks, Althor, downloading from Spleen now - didn’t think to look there. Sorry about the fuss, Schorman. (Today seems to be my apologize to Schorman day 😄 ).

If your 2.35:1 TV doesn’t have a function to zoom in letterboxed video, so that it fits exactly I’d be very surprised, because that would be incredibly stupid, since all 2.35:1 Blu-Rays are released with black bars, and even all streamed media on iTunes, Netflix and Ultraflix and such have them AFAIK, so without this function there would be zero point to such a TV from the legally purchased media point of view.

Also, my master-file for the 1080p release would be somewhere around 300-400GB with my current AVI masters but since I’m planning to move to image sequences for master for v3.0, the master will probably be more like 1TB.
So I’m not likely to release that and anything else would already be a re-encode

What do you guys think?

It doesn’t say Despecialized because quite frankly I want to ignore that the SEs exist, and it could be used for the Grindhouse or SSEs.

Not bad. But, and I know it’s kind of your theme, I’m not a huge fan of the leatherbound look. Maybe it reminds me too much of Ronto butt. 😛

I like the images, though.
