Since the topic is cartoons... let's see... well I can't think of anything either. I think we've discussed pretty much everything on the subject.

Maybe YOU all have but I haven't. here I am.

First thing to add: when I was in Japan and walking down the street there's just a vending machine on the sidewalk selling bottles of wine, sake, and cans of beer...that was cool. Wine bottles in a streetside vending machine.

Second thing to add: I love cartoons. Have any of you heard of Home Movies? First season is on DVD now. It's ingenious.


For the mainstream, I'm a big fan of:
The Tick
Family Guy
Cowboy Bebop (In general, I'm sure I would love Anime, but I find the boobs and impossible costumes filtering into my brain has a detrimental effect on my life and my relationships. I made an exception for Bebop)
Roger Ramjet
Freakazoid
Earthworm Jim
Road Rovers (had it's moments...I doubt I could watch it now, 10 years later)
Sealab 2021, in small doses. Except the episode 'Fusebox'. I could watch that one every day. Actually...I did for awhile. When I had it on tape.

and I second the conversation that I'm sure has been had already, what happened to the days of classical music and opera with intelligent subject matter? Basically, when did cartoons get corporatized and planned in board room brainstorm sessions, rather than in the minds of artists?

Basically, I think it started in the eighties when cartoon liscenece action figures hit stride. I think we can have the original Turtles series to thank for most of that, though the trend might be reversing with newer shows.

And I'm glad Sailor Moon is no longer on TV. Though it would be preferrable to Kids Next Door or Atomic Betty

Speaking of bad cartoons, does Pro Stars ring any bells? Bo Jackson, Wayne Gretzsky, and Michael Jordan sharing a house in suburbia and fighting criminal masterminds with their atheletic skills?

But didn't they do this in real life too?

Another bad, bad, bad cartoon I saw once: the "Hurricanes", about a soccer team who travels around the world solving mysteries and playing soccer with steriotyped teams (I saw one where they were in Egypt, and they were playing inside a pyramid against ancient egipcians and mummies and stuff).

I remember Prostars.

What was messed up is that Wayne Gretsky's character was this whiny pansy. He was the Snarf to Jordan and Bo Jackon's Lion-O and Pantro. I can't believe he signed off on his character being so wimpy.

The number of signatures on the petition to put the Smurfs on DVD is slightly more than the one to put Full House on DVD.
