Let's say that George Lucas breaks down and agree to release the Original editions, but he still wants to fix some continuity issues (the Emperor of ESB, for example).

All the old FX, just a couple fixes.

What do you think?

No more CG landspeeder.
No more Han Shoots First.
No more bad CG Jabba.
Old Wampa Ice Monster puppet.
Dumped Jedi Rocks.
Original "Yub Yub" Ewok ending.

Hmn, I don't know... If he was to release the OT, he should release it like it was originally shown, no modifications whatsoever. But still, at the same time, it'd be ok to have a Ultimate Edition trilogy, with all the problems fixed, like a better CGI Jabba, the cuts when they turn off lightsabers...

We're almost there. I like your list of fixes, but I still don't want continuity issues fixed. Because that would still mean that Hayden would be subbed for Sebastian Shaw, now wouldn't it?

Not necessarily, Bossk, and for a few reasons:

1. We are looking at what, 20 years between end of EP3 and the end of EP6, when Vader is finally unmasked. People change in 20 years.

2. Anakin suffers from some agonizing injuries. We do not know to what extent is body needs to be rebuilt. I think its a forgone conclusion that his hair never grows back. If facial reconstruction is needed, that kind of thing would contribute as well.

3. As for the ghost issue...did Yoda or Obi-wan come back young (well, the younger Obiwan might still get pasted in for all we know)??

Because that is what Lucas wants to do for "consistency's sake" -- replace Sebastian Shaw with an aged Hayden Christianson. Didn't say the rationale made sense. But what with Lucas ever truly makes sense?

I was just thinking that myself today actually.

I would mind an Ultimate Edition that was a cross between the original and the special editions.

It would only take maybe 2 changes to each special edition to make them watchable:

ANH:
Han scene fixed (must have to be watchable)
your choice of Jabba scene or Mos Eisley extended entrance

ESB:
Luke screaming taken out (must have to be watchable)
your choice of Cloud City less cheesy, Luke's line on Degobah changed back, or Wampa scene changed back

ROJ:
"Jedi Rock" taken out!! (must have to be watchable)
your choice of original ending song, or sarlac pit beak taken out

Lets face it, there are some things about the Special editions that kick ass, like the enhanced battle of Yavin. Today I watched the original version and special edition side-by-side (yes, with 2 tvs) and it was really noticable how much better the special edition version of the scene was, as hard as that is to admit...

Luke screaming taken out (must have to be watchable) - OK.
your choice of Cloud City less cheesy, Luke's line on Degobah changed back, or Wampa scene changed back - I choose... Luke's line. Cloud City and the Wampa are kinda ok by me.

ROJ:

your choice of original ending song, or sarlac pit beak taken out - I kinda liked the new sarlac pit... So I choose to go back to the original ending song, but keeping the footage of Tatooine and Coruscant. And keeping Sebastian Shawn obviously.

ESB: change back Luke's line on Degobah
ROTJ: original ending (including removal of Coruscant and other interplanetary celebrations)

But of course, that would still be a "Special Version". Along with this one, the original one should be released.

I agree that all versions should be out. I was just responding to his either/or options. Honestly, I want the whole damn thing restored to how it was. I'm still holding out hope against hope.
