I find VLC player to be pretty decent at playing back iso files mate. It’s free and easy to use - and not too heavy on the computer power.

I’m using a dedicated set top box media player not a PC to push movies to my Plasma TV.
(So no VLC)

Also, one little comment about HAL 9000’s edit of Episode I: He still calls both Qui Gonn and Obi Wan “Jedi Knights” in his opening title crawl, even though he leaves in Obi Wan receiving that title at the end of the movie.

Never even considered that. It just seems like a slightly imprecise use of language for expediency’s sake. If they were a cop and a rookie in training, I wouldn’t have a problem with the text description calling them a pair of cops.
Shrugs

My stance on revising fan edits.

Isn’t “Jedi Knight” supposed to be like “Knights Templar” – ie. part of their order’s name?

Not according to the movies. They make an explicit distinction between Padawans and Knights, even though both are affiliated with the Jedi Order.

I’m just responding but I really don’t mean to derail this thread

This thread has hardly been railed at any point as far as I can see.

FTFY

I guess it just goes to show that the PT muddles up everything, needlessly complicating things which should be simplicity itself.

Even if you use the OT as your only reference, they make it very clear that Luke could not be considered a “Jedi” until his training was 100% completed. So that still presents a problem with calling Obi Wan a “Jedi Knight” at the beginning of Episode I.

I’d be open to a thread devoted to this subject. Sorry again for discussing it here.

Your logic is correct, but to be honest, I didn’t even notice until you pointed it out.

But seriously, Hal and countless other Fan Editors have donated obscene amounts of time to create true works of Art for us to enjoy. They didn’t have to share it with the world but they did, so everyone should be beyond grateful and appreciative in every possible respect. I think Hal 9000 deserves a lot better than the unfortunate wording “I don’t think any fan editor has an excuse for not fixing it”.

HAL and I have communicated via private messages and I made sure there were no hard feelings or personal offense taken. I completely agree with every word of what you’ve said about the gratitude fan editors deserve for their work, and I have expressed gratitude to HAL for his wonderful edits.

My comments are primarily motivated by a desire to see these edits be as good as they can possibly be. I can see why you would call my “no excuse” wording “unfortunate”, and I admit I could have made the point less forcefully, but I was never intentionally implying that Cloak of Deception is a bad fan edit or that HAL is a bad editor

I just discovered fan edits for the first time about a week ago so I am new to this scene. I am very happy with the ep I rework that I watched. It’s a huge improvement. And being able to watch ep IV with the mono mix allows me to hear all the sound effects they changed or cut out after 1977. So when I read your post I was like… wow, I hope this doesn’t encourage other people to jump in and get all critical. So I was trying to warn everyone to use kid gloves when discussing fan edits.

Just imagine the cruel and inhumane tribulation Fan Editors will undergo trying to salvage the disaster that is ep VII. How do you un-blowup Hosnian Prime to bring back the Senate? There’s no intergalactic politics, struggle, or credible plot without it. Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma are just plain weak. The Fan Editors will suffer greatly with Disney’s “Strong Brunette Barbie meets Bumbling Ken” singular plot.

With all of the above being said, I’d just like to add 3 small caveats, with no aggressive intentions:

  1. You can criticize something and appreciate it at the same time; they are not mutually exclusive.

  2. If it’s ok to criticize George Lucas, then it’s ok to criticize a fan who has changed George Lucas’s work

  3. Fan editors do their work knowing that people will have responses, and if they get offended they are fully capable of speaking up for themselves.

Good Points, both Lucas and Fan Editors will make decisions that I or you might not like and that’s to be expected.

But don’t forget George Lucas made like 10 billion from creating Star Wars. He was very well paid to deliver something. The Fan Editors do it for free so that’s why my thinking is that we want to encourage them as best we can by using delicate wording when offering suggestions. That’s my only point here.

Then you might want to avoid saying things like Strong Bumbling Barbie and Bumbling Ken.

I never wrote “Strong Bumbling Barbie”, you are definitely misquoting me. Why?

Barbie was in fact very “Strong” and very “Brunette” as I stated.
Barbie did meet Ken
Ken was Bumbling throughout the movie.

All true statements as far as I can tell.

Not sure in what context you are trying invoke the “then” part of your argument
since my last post was singularly suggesting that we play nice with Fan Editors
so they continue to donate time to creating edited episodes which may turn out far
better than the originals. Episode I was greatly improved in my opinion.

Misquoted by accident. And “true statements” lol.

I have a lot of knowledge about edits, and access to many old ones. But your constant off-topic bitching about TFA in this thread (some of which, like the ridiculous Ken and Barbie thing, borders on offensive, or at least is nonsensical) makes me not want to help.

If misquoting and misrepresentation is your idea of help then I would prefer you not offer any more help.

If misquoting

Do you need an explanation of what the word “accident” means?

If you are going to continue to take shots at me then you better not misquote me. And your continued and ridiculous guise of “wanting to help” is beyond transparent and just plain foolish. Your last post more than proves my point.
