We heard about battle droids killing the people of Naboo in TPM, but we never saw the casualties Padme’s advisors kept talking about. We don’t hear about or see innocent people caught in any battles in the rest of the prequels, although The Clone Wars does deal with this. So, some people could have developed a hatred of all droids from that.
The prequel battle droids not looking like IG-88 was a missed opportunity.
