Could "Force Vision" explain how Leia knows what her mother looks like? Discussion — Page 2

Yeah RotJ begs for edits as much as the prequels. I wish I could find the Spence edit, I’ve got the YADS/Daneditor edit and while it has good ideas about structure and makes some tangible and important changes, the editing is sub par… some scenes don’t even have the right aspect ratio 😕

It will be available (along with a boatload of other older SW edits) as soon as I can get info to acknowledge my submissions.

Sorry if that sounded like a jab at you, it wasn’t. If anything I was hoping someone else in the thread might PM me.

I wonder what they’re doing over there 😕 ?

Honestly if it’s bad writing in ROTS it’s bad writing in ROTJ as well. They’re both retcons. Leia was never adopted until Lucas decided to make her Luke’s sister.

Sure ROTJ doesn’t necessarily directly contradict anything in the previous films, but, and maybe it’s just me, there still seems to be a logical leap in Luke and Leia’s conversation. Leia already knew she was adopted (and Luke for that matter)? Seems to come out of nowhere and never fit right for me.

We never really see Leia properly react to the terrible truth that Vader is actually her father

Yeah that has always bothered me. She reacted more to finding out that Vader was Luke’s father than her finding out her own heritage. You would think that finding out the right hand of the Devil was your father would at least warrant a “Come again” or her jaw dropping slightly. Anything other than her pretty much brushing it off. I attribute this to George’s inability to work with actors and Carrie Fisher’s so-so acting.

These are good points. But now we should be moving this over to a RotJ thread >_>

I assume they’ve invented photographs in star wars.

Moving photographs are to be seen in EP II’s deleted scene in Padme’s room on Naboo. (that said most deleted scene are not canon, it’s a grey area). There are photographs also in Rebels. (funnily there look like hand drawn cartoon)

The question would be: is it or not canon that Leia knows she was adopted before Luke told her the truth? As far as I know it is not canon for now. So we can only assume that Leia is refering to her adoptive mother (because when Luke asks her she should still believe that she’s her real mother. We don’t know if Bail told her the truth). End of debate for me unless there is something that contradicts that. One can always wondering about photographs or Force visions or anything else, but if we stick to what is told, then the logical thing is that she’s just talking about her adoptive mother. It’s just that Luke is turning his question from his point of view (from what HE knows) when he asks about her “real” mother.

But yes, it’s a problem with Lucas. Originaly she’d lived with her mother for two years before she’s adopted.

They should have Natalie Portman come in and reshoot the ending. Have her go to Alderaan with Bail Organa (bring back Jimmy Smits too)

Then that plot hole is fixed.

I always thought that the dialogue between Luke and Leia in Return of the Jedi should have been edited in the special edition.

An editor could cut “Do you remember your mother . . . your real mother?” to “Do you remember your mother?”

Then the inconsistency with the prequels could be easily resolved.

More likley she just does not know that she is adopted and thinks that her stepmother is her real mother or Lucas created a plothole. You be the judge.

If you look in the early draft
For ROTJ script Luke was meant to keep his secret knowledge of Leia being his sister until the end of the film. Like Obi-wan told him

They are also wearing the same clothes as at the end of the film.

So I think it is better that it happens later. The only problem is.

“The force runs strong in my Family… I have it and my sister has it” but I thought this is the best handling I could come up with.
