ETA: There is also speculation that the mandibles were designed to fit into giant cargo pods that the MF would then push to it’s destination.

I like the comment linked above that it might actually just be a tug boat pulling containers of freight (another possible use for the fork shaped mandibles). Kind of like a semi pulling a trailer… it would be kind of backwards to attach something to the front, but that would explain why the cockpit is way off the side… to see around what’s attached in front.
