Uses the force:

‘Someone wants to send me a myspleen invitation’ 😃

Need to see this somehow.

Where can I download this 35mm restoration without myspleen or tehparadox? Myspleen has stopped taking invites, and tehparadox is giving my lots of trouble. are there any public torrents? If so, could you please give me links? Thanks!

Theatre, Godzilla, and Star Wars; pretty much sums me up.

If you do some creative googling, I’m certain you can find what you’re looking for. I just did a quick search and found at least one source.

Thanks, once again, for this release. I downloaded it a couple weeks ago and IMMEDIATELY watched it, when all I wanted to do (at first) was a quality check.

Clearly the best available digital version of the original cut of the movie. Amazing work. Waiting for the ESB release and any future version increase.

hint: this IS available in a more public fashion, in some kickass ways.

Is it going to be split screen, where the split line continually shifts back and forth as Eastman fights Technicolor, and one side eventually wins out?

We could do that if you like.

We should probably start a new thread for this, but here’s a sneak peak at what is going on with the Eastman vs Technicolor project…

Is anyone working on syncing the surround audios to this release?
I’ve synced the PT-BR subtitle but my experience with audio syncing is very limited.

Using those frame references from GOUT would be possible to sync those audios using EAC3TO?

Nice post. I understand what you are doing on a technical basis, but, to be clear: what is the actual end goal for 2.0? Technicolor source and color for as much as possible, with color matched and aligned LPP simply for the damage repair or missing frames when needed?

Exactly. The LPP is only there to fill in the dirt and replace the missing frames. This project is all about the Technicolor version of Star Wars. It’s sharper, and the colors are much nicer than the LPP, but it’s also has a lot more damage. As a bonus, using the techniques demonstrated here, we may also end up with a version of the LPP color timed to match the tech 😃

Right - we have to finish the LPP first!

Edit: But I will add one more teaser, just for the OT crowd.

This video was produced using this technique (plus a little post processing to clean it up a little more), and it only took about a week… It has not been color corrected.

Incredible how ‘right’ this looks!

I stumbled across this image in some article and it shows nicely how much more real the '97 CGI looks with some generational loss and 35mm colors. I think if TN1 do a 35mm transfer of the '97SE, like they said they eventually would, it could be a great resource for anyone wanting to do any kind of semi-specialized edition.

I would absolutely be able to make use of a 35 scan of ANH97.

The Eastman vs Technicolor sample as well as the Silver Screen Edition seem to have quite noticeable light streaking/banding on the whole far right side of the frame.

It this present on the film as well or does this get introduced during the scanning process?

Holy shit, that looks fantastic! Already so much better than the current version…

So, I might have missed it, are you actually working on the full movie at this quality for another release down the line?

Again, we will discuss details about this version in another thread, when we are ready to discuss it.

Please reserve your questions until then.

But seriously, I can understand why Mike Verta used these prints for his own restoration. I’m amazed by how sharp they are.

I was also surprised by how undersaturated Vader’s lightsaber was.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

I think the sample given was the entire scanned frame so you see the junk on the edge that normally gets cropped.

I agree- this actually matches the aesthetic of the original effects, something that the home video releases are sorely lacking. Harmy, could you post the article this is from?
