^I’ve been thinking they’ll release the OOT on the 40th for some time now. It might make even more sense now that the two (OOT and VIII) won’t be competing for the spotlight at the same time.

The funny thing is the Memorial Day tradition was really not missed at all. In fact, TFA fit into the holiday season like a glove. Christmas is where Star Wars was originally intended to be, and now we know Christmas is where Star Wars was truly meant to be and will continue to be (? IX and Solo are still slated for summer).

I’m sure Disney didn’t mind the change at all. Summer is where sequels go to cash in on their opening weeks and then die so other sequels can take their place. The weekend before Christmas is the perfect time for a special event film like Star Wars (this franchise is a different beast than others) where it can have a month of box office revenues all to itself.
