2011 Rocks and 2004 Krayt Call in this Clip from Starwars.com

This is something interesting I just noticed. This clip of the Tusken Raider attack appears to be a rip from the 2011 Blu-Ray. Then I heard the 2004 Dragon Krayt Obi Wan call.

I remember hearing about Star Wars being restored in 4K and that there were rumors that Disney was keeping some changes and taking others out. Perhaps this is evidence that that’s the case?

That’s definitely the blu ray picture alright. I wonder, why on earth would they pair one release’s picture with another’s sound unless it was some new restoration? Why go through the trouble for only a small online clip?

Now if they release some kind of cut and paste release without the originals as well that would be unacceptable.

I would be very satisfied if they made a proper special edition. Take out all the PT crap (Hayden, NOOO) and some other major negative changes, such as Greedo thing, Boba Fett voice, Jedi Rock, etc… but keep the good changes such as Endor celebration song, galaxy celebration scenes, Ben’s house, Bantha herd scene visual/sound improvements, etc.

You like the bantha herd in Jedi? I just find it to be an unnecessary aside that ruins the flow of the film. Also, in general, I despise the addition of the animals all over the desert of Tattooine. It ruins the notion that the planet is nothing but a desolate wasteland full of “scum and villainy.”

Though any new release that doesn’t include the OUT would be unacceptable at this point, I would enjoy the opportunity to watch a good quality SE that is watchable (i.e., the current SE minus PT “continuity” changes, changes that alter the plot and suspense (cantina, Jabba in SW), and superfluous cartoon animals everywhere.

I like the scene a lot. Not because of banthas but simply because it shows a bit more of a beautiful side of the planet. It is short and doesn’t ruin the flow at all. It adds more immersion quality, which is a crucial aspect of fantasy worlds. On the other hand, I agree about creatures in ANH (Mos Eisley entry scene), which don’t add anything and are basically a distraction.

For an SE I had no problem with that shot. It got rid of felt tip man too.

If changes were being kept, I’d be shocked if the rock were one of them. It is completely asinine, even more so than most of the other changes.

Yeah if Disney releases their own SE that would be frustrating.

The way I see it, there are two versions of Star Wars worth preserving for history’s sake: the '77/'80/'83 and the '97 editions, the only two that saw their premiers on the big screen. As far as I am concerned, the '04 DVD and '11 Blu-Ray cuts are insignificant from a preservation point of view.

If new Lucasfilm lead by Disney wanted to put out their own edition based on the '04/'11 as some kind of “Definitive Edition,” like the Bladerunner “Final Cut,” why not? It would be better than anything we’ve had since the original releases (they would be bone-headed, for instance, to keep Greedo shooting or Vader’s Noooooo!). If they’re doing a new 4k transfer for such purposes, however, there is no excuse not to release the theatrical version alongside, and from a business perspective, it would be quite stupid to pass up the opportunity for an expensive boxset that would fly off the shelves.

Fully agree. I will also buy a new Star Wars home video release only if it includes the original theatrical cuts and/or deleted scenes.

I don’t think they (morally) have the right to tinker with the trilogy. I think that the 2011 should be the final Special Edition, as these were the last ones that George worked on, and are essentially his definitive version. I don’t think we’ll ever see an official release of the 97/04 cuts again, and I doubt we’ll get a new master for the 2011. I think they’ll do a 4K restoration of the OUT and release it in a pack with left over 2011 discs.

Great idea. Someone should start a website for all the people who want the original theatrical cuts on home video.

I’m just trying to explain this weird-a** video. Perhaps it’s some kind of working cut of the 2011 before they swapped the audio tracks, and a desk jockey at Lucasfilm pulled the clip from an HDD w/out realizing it?

Possibly. Too bad we can’t see when this clip was uploaded.

Anyways, I do think Disney will put out the theatrical cuts eventually.

They threw out Lucas’s version of EP7, they kept him a million miles away from the set, and they wouldn’t even let him give a few ideas. I really don’t think Disney cares about the mans opinion anymore, because THEY own Star Wars now, not him.

Plus, Lucas has said some pretty nasty stuff about Disney, so their relationship isn’t too great.

I honestly think George doesn’t give a shit about Star Wars anymore. I highly doubt he wrote “Keep the theatrical cuts away” in the contract with Disney.

This is my take.

Not definitive, but a good estimate–Web Archive’s earliest crawl of the page is Sept. 5, 2015.

I entered the URL in Google and it said August 31st, 2015.

As you and I know, the Blu-Ray has been out since Sept 16th 2011. They could’ve easily ripped the clip from the Blu-Ray and upload that, but they didn’t. I don’t think they altered the audio just for an online clip. Now I’m convinced that were gonna see a Disney SE. Hopefully packaged with the unaltered versions.
