#113649 is there but it’s wrong, or messed up, or something…

That frame (TN1 114561) is GOUT 113651
and as you said, got messed up in the cleaning process or something.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Bahaha, it’s nice of you to to include the quote from our GOUT-loving friend on myspleen.

The GOUT DVDs look better? This person obviously has flies in his eyes, which is precisely, I assume, the reason that he cannot see them…

Just wanted to answer a few more thoughts about this project.

The project goals for this release were to preserve the movie in close to the theatrical version
as we could.

Therefore, we have not included subtitles, or other features as most releases have.

We know the community here at OT, is more than capable of adding back those requested.

For the Subtitles

We would rather use the few Gigabytes needed for subtitles for the movie. People can make
a custom version later on.

GOUT comptability

Due to the timeframe we had, we didn’t have time to match them, and in fact with some of the
frames missing, it was not a priority.

We will add back what we can for the Bluray.

Audio

Again, we used something we had to get it synced for the MKV, rather than taking more time
to use theatrical versions. This will be fixed in the future relase. We are only concentrating
on the Stereo 35mm, and the mono 16mm, along with the mono Spanish.

Any further audio tracks will have to be added as a custom version.

===============================================

A few of our Team Members are going to be taking a break for awhile from this project.

Progress on the Bluray will continue at a slower pace, but that will be it for the time
being, along with Empire Strikes Back - Sanitized.

Any corrections, and issues at that point will stop with the 1.5 version.

================================================

We have already started moving onto the next set of projects.

  • Return of the Jedi (LPP)
  • Star Wars (Eastman vs Technicolor)

We did mention Empire Strikes Back (Fuji), but that will be a project taken on without a current timeframe,
but will be a dedicated restoration.

There will be more details of other projects as we get to them.

If I might make one suggestion. Whether you decide to GOUT sync or not, if you want credit for your work it might be best to do as Harmy did on his releases and put your credit at the end of the film. I suggest this since anyone who would want to mix in their preference of the plethora of audio and subtitle options out there to your footage would either have to offset or modify everything they add or, more likely, do as the current 720p GOUT synced copy on the spleen did and remove your credit at the beginning of the film. I added hairy_hen’s DTS-HD MA 5.1 track quite simply to that 720p GOUT synced version, and the result was glorious, even despite the occasional missing frame placeholders, and is about how I think I would preserve and distribute this with respect to your final version; it would be regrettable having to do so without credit to you.

I think this is a good idea for mkv releases. But for the BD ISO, they can just have their credit reel in a separate m2ts container, regardless of which way they choose to go (or have it show before the menu, etc).

This can be done with an mkv as well.

This project is incredible. Totally worth the wait. Huge thanks to everyone involved.

I have a question though. How sure are we that in the MKV released, the sound is completely in sync with the picture? Especially during the first few reels.

Again, thank you so much for your work and dedication.

Guys you rock - million thanks wouldn’t be enough. Just wanted to say now I know exactly why I bought a BD writer a long long time ago.
Oh, and yes, I can also confirm the ISO from the mkv burns and plays just fine on a BD player.

People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians, and if the laws of the United States continue to condone this behavior, history will surely classify us as a barbaric society.

A couple of questions:

Is this an original audio capture from one of the prints you used?

And a few of the darker shots grow brighter then darker then brighter again (jawas/R2 scenes for example) . Do the prints do this, or is this some kind of artifact from the scanning/digitization/compression?

Hey Guys, I put together the imgur album and thought I would add my thanks and appreciation for all your efforts.

This is an incredible achievement!

I watched it projected at home and to say that it was special was an understatement…it felt like there was nothing to get in the way of enjoying what we all fell in love with all those years ago, in my case seeing it on TV in 1981 and watching a VHS copy until it disintegrated about 150 views later.

Best of luck with your continued efforts on the restoration. 😃

A marvelous effort. You have given us a precious gift and we eagerly await the competition of the trilogy. Those of us who have tried our hand at editing and experienced how time consuming it can be will wait with the necessary patience.

Am I to understand correctly that the original 35mm stereo audio will be added for the blu ray ISO?

I’m halfway through watching this and I’ll share my comments:

I agree with others about the intro, I’d suggest removing it as it makes easier for us to add tracks to the film. Also as your objective was to make it looks as original as it could, that takes a little away from it. Of course you guys deserve all the credit and we all love you for doing this, not diminishing any of it!

About the missing frames, I would try to add the missing frames from other sources, even GOUT if comes to that. Again, it would help all of us and then this would be a fully complete version.

Looking forward for the original audio!

The light bleeding or whatever it’s called is pretty bad in all scenes where there is direct light. Is it still fixable for the BD at this point?

As others have said, this is a truly awesome effort and I cannot thank you enough for doing this. This is and will be my go to version from now on. Thanks for everything and looking forward for the BD and your other releases.

I think that would really stand out and look rather poor. Since they’ve found the majority of missing frames, hopefully they can get it GOUT synced in a less intrusive manner. If they can’t, I hope they leave it to others to make unofficial GOUT synced versions in the manner they prefer (or someone trims a ton of audio tracks). Sync aside, the film doesn’t suffer at all with those frames missing.

The intro will remain, but will be separate from the movie. Alternately, you can clip the intro for yourself.

No, since that is not the intent of the project.

The video is pretty much finalized, that result is inherent in our scan. Some color correction may alleviate this.

We appreciate the feedback.

If you check back over our statements, we would prefer the community fix, and arrange things according to their preferences. We can’t add everything that people want, and satisfy all the requests that people have,
because many conflict with each other, and there would be no end of corrections.

This resource should be considered a starting point for your ultimate version, and that will encourage participation from the board members.

The Silver Screen Edition is truly amazing, I have a question though. Why didn’t you colour correct it to match the technicolor prints? IMO it would’ve made it a lot cooler.
