I rather liked The Revenant, but it could be bias to how I’m impressed with how it was filmed for the most part, with natural lighting and still looking stunning as well as reading on how bitterly tough it was to film certain pieces.
It could had done more story wise, sure. I’m not quite sure if the repeated saying/metaphor used throughout the film made ‘sense’ or effectively tied into in the story of the film, but maybe I’m just missing it. Regardless though, it’s a revenge flick and I’m not sure if such films need all that much of compelling nature due to how inherently black and white it has to be. Kill Bill had a fun angle to it, so that’s why it tends to stand out. I just think The Revenant did its job pretty decently to pull me into a bitter and harsh environment via the character’s emotions/reactions.
