One can only hope the release once in its final iteration will find its way to popular public trackers and the front page of google.

uloz.to makes sense for Harmy because he’s Czech, and I believe it’s a Czech filesharing site.

Personally?

I don’t think the usual routine is that big a deal. Even if I didn’t have an account on myinternalorgan, I’d just wait like everyone else. The way I see it is using that tracker isn’t entirely about keeping things low-key - it’s almost as much, I suspect, about giving first dibs to the OT longtimers, many of whom have had a hand in other restorations already, and if that’s what the uploaders want to do, that’s fine by me. I do not myself upload torrents there, nor will I, because I prefer to release on public trackers.

I just happen to have been involved in a couple ANH projects myself over the years, and the Team -1 scans are useful to the final completion of the biggest one I started over a decade ago.

Just wanted to say your work is appreciated! Gorgeous transfer! I love feeling like I’m in a cinema watching a film for the first time, and this one delivers the goods! Great work!

Density, I honestly understand your train of thought: you have a certain system that is logical and works for you (in this case, torrents) and the way that this board is choosing to initially share this work is through a system that is totally different from yours (newsgroups and multiple rars+file sharing sites). I, personally, would prefer torrents as well. I honestly don’t want to pay for newsgroups and finding a clean download of jdownloader without spyware can be a little difficult.

However, if people are lashing out at you, it’s more because of your tone which, while I understand you had the best intentions, did come out sounding a little condescending. People have their reasons for not creating a public torrent and instead of saying: “Hey guys, I’m just curious why you don’t just distribute this by torrent. Is there some reason why?” You went for a more agressive tone (“this crap is useless, my way is so much better!”)

But please know that the more popular projects here end up on ye olden bandits of the sea bay and other public trackers pretty quickly. Other people are more than willing to do that and the original creators tend to be ok with it.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

I’ve now had the chance to watch this from start to finish and wow, just wow! The most apt word I can think of to describe this is GORGEOUS! I cannot express how happy this has made me or how appreciative and grateful I am for all the work and efforts of Team -1!

Personally I was very happy with the quality of the encode and the settings used and see no need to change it.

Finally I just wanted to mention that like others I have noticed some white/bright smearing such as in the scene where the Jawas are mobilising the droids inside the sandcrawler in order to present them for sale. If this can be fixed then great if not then I can very easily live with it!

Thanks again Team -1!

Watching this side by side with the gout. I’m now convinced that the crawl on the gout is a recreation. The title card lingers quite a bit longer in the print version, and quite frankly, looks more like what I remember seeing as a kid.

Heh. Would not surprise me.

I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project to fruition. I’ve watched a few scenes from it now and am going to burn it to a bluray later, and watch it on my Epsom projector on a 110" screen later - heaven! From what I’ve seen it looks beautiful - love seeing that grain intact, instead of the digitally scrubbed, fake grain added back afterwards look of the blurays. It’s surprising how much difference it makes. One can relax into the film more without the unnatural ‘sheen’ caused by digitally added grain and excessive use of the sharpening tools. The colours look so much better too, though I think they’re possibly just a little washed out looking (looks like the GOUT colours were used as a reference?). Easy to bump the colour up a notch or two when watching anyway. Overall it looks bloody marvellous - the work that’s gone into this is astonishing, and the end result is a miracle! The importance of this release cannot be over-stated: Star Wars '77 is truly back. Thank you so much 😃

Look, you can mock me all you want if you can’t take some constructive criticism. But I’m not seeing any refutation of the logic that if you’re gonna upload something publicly anyway, you might as well do it in a faster and more convenient way.

Faster and more convenient how exactly?

Two problems with public trackers:

  1. Speed. Everyone can connect and everyone can download. Hit’n’runners ruin everyone’s download speed and never give back, which is a huge issue for 25GB torrents. Seedbox users rarely use public trackers, because honestly, why would they? No one wants to waste bandwidth on people who close their torrent client immediately after the download is done. Uloz.to is faster.

  2. They’re public. Everyone can connect to every torrent and log people’s IP’s. Copyright trolls can too.

Stop whining and fill your captchas. Using a download manager it will all take about 4 minutes of your life.

Also if you were a little less rude/dismissive you could just ask someone for a MySpleen invitation (in the appropriate thread) and you’d probably get one.

Are people allowed to upload the release, without modification, to an open or a different closed torrent tracker - or any other public sharing means, really - if they so decide?

The documentation on MySpleen doesn’t talk about re-sharing and the documentation on the release itself encourages the users to share… So I wonder if there’s anything preventing people from re-releasing it and seeding it on different trackers.

Wow. Just wow. Im gonna watch it tonight on the projector, cant wait.
Thanks again to all the team, and I’ll say it again, keep up the good work.

Congratulations to the entire team!! 😃 What an effort, I’m sure it will sit comfortably on the throne right next to Despecialized! I’m gonna hold out for the iso though, so I won’t miss any of the additional tweaks.

I just gotta ask, since this isn’t gout synced;

“audio - we will have a partially restored mono track,
the 35mm theatrical mix, and a reconstructed 70mm version,
along with the original 35mm spanish soundtrack for it.”

Is this info still relevant? Is/was Hairy_Hen working on a synced up surround mix,
or was the initial aim to have had this release gout synced?

Thanks for all your work, what a way to start this year for conservative Star Wars fan!

Besides, if someone was insistent on getting it via torrent, it’s already on the spleen, isn’t it? That at least addresses the “public” issue.

I just wanted to add my thanks for this. I’m not a die-hard SW fan by any means, but those SE digital changes are an abomination. Harmy’s Despecialized is great, but having an actual film scan is even better.

Thank you again!

I downloaded all of Harmy’s previous edits from uloz using jdownloader. It asked for captchas. I did it a few at a time, rather than sitting at my computer all day. It took a few days. Then I watched the movies and was appreciative. What I didn’t do is bitch.

TANSTAAFL. Get over it.

Thank you to TN1 and also to althor for GOUT syncing it. One thing though - did the GOUT synced version have to be be in 720p or can you add frames without sacrificing resolution?

I cannot tell a difference between the 1080p vs 720p version on my 50" tv. There really hasn’t been much of a sacrifice imo. I have posted the script so anybody that wants to take a crack at their own encode can totally do that. I’ve heard that you can split an mkv and add new segments losslessly, but yeah, I have no interest in pursuing that.

I can’t wait to get this. The 4K version is supposed be finished too. Who do I have to sell to slavery to get into that screening?

You’re talking about Mike Verta’s? Just wanted to be clear that you’re discussing a totally different project before people start making the wrong conclusion.

Sorry yes Mike Verta’s project. I was just commenting on how great this year is for Star Wars.
