I Have a good version of the spanish track, direct from Umatic source.

Author

Any idea if this would be compatible with the audio tracks of the Despecialized Edition? I have doubts since I’m fairly certain DE is GOUT synced and this is not. Or am I remembering incorrectly?

Author

Maybe have to resynchronize , perhaps fps are not the same…

Harmy, can you explain why you consider this superior to your v2.5?

Actually, v2.5 is probably better quality than this in the scenes where only the BD was used but this is a nice consistent HD transfer with no non-HD materials, so over-all, I’d say it’s better.

In terms of detail, I’d say the only real edge the official Blu Ray has on this preservation is when it comes to showing skin pores on the actors. We don’t need to see Hamill’s spots anyway.

Harmy You need another audio track in Spanish ?

Star Wars - 35mm LPP Silver screen version FAQ v1.0b

Welcome, from Team Negative1 to our FAQ for our release of
Star Wars 35mm Silver Screen version.

NOTE : We will not be replying to any technical issues, such as burning
discs, or playback. Please refer to the Technical forums on OriginalTrilogy.com

Similarily, any requests for color changes or corrections will have to
be done on your own. Our choices are presented as a reference.

Goals

Our philosophy was to restore the print back to what it would have been viewed like
theatrically. It is not a pristine cleaned version. We have cleaned major dust and dirt,
stabilized, deflickered, and color corrected it. It is also cropped theatrically,
although there is slightly more image in the original scans which was not intended
to be viewed in the theater.

Source information and Details

Q : What is this sourced from?
A : This version is a digital recreation of Star Wars sourced from different 35mm prints.

Q : What was used from which print?
A : The primary source was a Spanish 35 mm LPP print.
The intro and crawl were from a faded English Eastman Kodak print. (Does not have Episode 4 in it)
The Han shoots first scene was sourced from a faded Eastman Kodak print.
There are also several replacement shots throughout the movie from faded Eastman Kodak prints.

Q : What was it scanned at?
A : The majority of it was taken from 2k scans, but some sections were scanned in 4k,
and downsampled to 2k.

Q : What is an LPP print.
A : It is a type of print that is Low fade Positive Print, and retains colors better than
the Eastman Kodak types that fade.

Q : Some shots look blurry and lower resolution?
A : Any shot with effects will have lower resolution, due to multiple copies for that process.

Q : There are dirt and some shots with marks on them?
A : For our restoration, we chose to leave original marks, matte lines, and boxes in the film.
So keep an eye out for those, along with the reel change marks.

Q : The bluray has more detail.
A : Yes, the scans of these prints, will never be able to match that clarity due to multiple
process used to produce a release print. However, many scenes are still as sharp or sharper.

Q : How authentic are the colors.
A : Although not a Technicolor, which is a different process. This version accurately matches
the colors of the print if it were being projected. We have compared this with projected versions,
and the match is fairly close. Shots were color corrected scene by scene in a lot of the film.

Q : How long did it take to do this?
A : The project started 7 years ago, but 4 years is when the bulk of the work was done. With
the fine tuning and quality checks in the last year.

Q : How many releases are there?
A : Currently we have 1) MKV 1080p 2) Bluray 1080p ISO file versions. There may be more
downconverts, and a few updates, on the audio, images, and other items released
later on. We do not currently have plans for a Grindhouse version of this.

Q : Do I have to pay for this?
A : NO, this is a free fanedit restoration. Just make sure you support Disney, and Lucasfilm.

Q : Where can I find it?
A : Usenet groups(eventually), and private trackers like Myspleen, sharing site tehparadox.

Thanks for checking this out, and also look for the previously released Empire Strikes Back
Grindhouse series (3 releases).

Future Plans

Return of the Jedi, and a few more surprises are being worked on currently.

Other releases

  • Star Wars 8mm
  • Star Wars EIAJ tape
  • Star Wars CED trilogy (pre-laserdisc)

Due to missing frames at the reel changes, some editing of either the audio (removing a few ms) or the video (perhaps adding some duplicate frames) would be necessary to sync it to the GOUT Audio Streams.

Thanks for this !!! 😄 Really happy it’s finally here.

One question: Aside from the extra audio tracks, will there be any differences between the MKV and the upcoming ISO? Thanks !

Yes, there will be further cleanup, and possibly a minor color correction on a scene or two.

If there’s going to be further color correction, I’d suggest working on the scene in Ben’s hut. The colors are all over the place. Some shots look relatively good, but in others, the faces are practically purple.

I’m noticing that lights and reflections are “streaked,” like it was a slow exposure and their luminescence is trailing off a little. It’s especially noticeable when Artoo and Threepio are in the sandcrawler. Is this the result of overexposure in the scan or is it native to the print or negative?

EDIT: Here’s an example of what I’m talking about.

To everyone at Team Negative1 who worked on this, THANK YOU! I’m watching it now and I’m very impressed with the quality. As Harmy already stated, it feels completely authentic and I feel like I’m watching Star Wars for the first time since I was a kid. Well done.

I noticed this too. It makes it appear as if the jawa is translucent.

Much thanks to TN1. I’ve been waiting for this since I discovered this site nearly 3 years ago. I’m patiently waiting for this to finish download, but I have no doubt it will be my go to for the time being. Thanks for all your hard work.

Amazing. Thank you so much for this release, all involved. No matter how much color correction is done to the aging 2004 Lowry master, it will never have as a naturalistic palette as this. The clean-up is also quite impressive; the print looks like it’s a few days old, not 39 years!

Are there any ISOs already released, regarding your Q&A above? It says there are 2 ISOs. If not, when will the “finished” ones be available, soon-ish…?

Downloading now the mkv, huge thanks to everyone involved and congratulations for making this happen and to everyone who’s waited for this. 😃

A day long remembered. We’ve come a long way from LaserDisc and VHS rips. Thanks to all involved!

Can’t wait to hear the 35mm audio. If I’m not mistaken, is this GOUT audio?

The finished copy came out of bat guano nowhere, but it was soon enough I found out, I at least seeded it somewhat instead of downloading it to have nobody else downloading from me. 😉 I’ll keep it going as long as I can.
