FORUM SUGGESTION: New rule and thread for playback and technical questions

I don’t know about the rest of the members but I am tired and frustrated with all of the OT forum threads being clogged with users posting questions on how to get releases working on their home AV setups. It makes it so difficult to navigate the feeds to find posts that are actually on topic.

At least a third of the posts in Harmy’s threads are people asking how to burn the Despecialized Editions to disc. It makes these threads impossible to navigate and creates a negative experience for the community.

Can we please create a forum rule where technical questions and issues with getting releases to work on disc or bluray players or whatever are limited to a dedicated thread? This will make the forum so much more enjoyable.

If anyone else feels the same way please post your support.

They’re already supposed to be posting in the ‘how-to’ section, I think.

The issue is most of these people, as well as those asking for links, are doing so immediately after registering and either don’t know or couldn’t care less about the correct way to ask.

But yeah, I agree that a stickied thread might be better for visibility. And it’s probably true that people with A/V questions are much more willing to ask their questions in the appropriate place once they know where that is (as opposed to download questions, which will simply be dropped anywhere prefixed with ‘sorry’).

Can admins start deleting these posts then? In the same way that admins delete posts containing download links?

I think the mods have been a bit more accommodating lately due to the anticipated influx of people due to TFA. And some of us have been answering those questions a bit more, since it seems likely that more than one person will benefit from it. But it does end up getting asked every couple of pages through the thread.

It really wouldn’t even have been of much consequence a couple months ago, but now we actually have Harmy giving us updates in his threads. So I can see why you might be frustrated.
