My biggest problem with Troy was its attempt to demythologise a myth. HELLO? Verisimilitude is all good and fine, but a movie like this needs a little mythology to keep the viewers engaged. It's like Joel Schumacher's inability to acknowledge the inherent campiness in Phantom of the Opera; it needs that campiness to keep the audience involved in the movie. All the successful musicals of the last few years (Chicago, Moulin Rouge) have done this; why should mythology be any different?
