Just some fan art I came across while searching for Flash Gordon stuff. 😃
I dig the 30’s style Enterprise. Some of the early inaccurate depictions of the ship had rocket exhaust shooting out the back. The artists in question were probably thinking of Flash or Buck Rogers.

I just wonder what they were thinking when they had Spock commit genocide against an entire planet of plant people …
I’m just wrapping up season 1 in my TOS watch-through. I’ve seen most of them before, but not in any kind of order, and I know I missed a handful. It’s been a few years since I’ve fired these up and I’m enjoying myself immensely. I just watched the one where they get sucked back to the 1930s and Kirk tells everyone Spock is Chinese.

What episode was that? The only one with plant aliens I recall is the The Infinite Vulcan from TAS, aka Attack Of The Giant Spock Clone.

That was in some Star Trek comic book issue if I remember correctly
Yes, I referring to the first issue of the Gold Key comic series.
*shakes head*
Wtf? That’s how Spock was in those? Might as well call it something other than Star Trek and change their names.
Technically, that’s only Spock in the first issue. The following issues had a less Mirror Universed Spock.
But yeah – the first dozen or so issues of the Gold Key series captured very little of the TV show’s spirit.
IIRC, the early Gold Key stuff was done by people overseas who had never even watched the show. They worked from whatever publicity photos were available, and probably had no idea what certain things looked like.
I can only wonder what Gene thought of them.
I actually had that particular comic in what looked like a Super 8 sized filmstrip you ran through a little plastic viewer.

Mine inexplicably came with only one strip, leaving the story incomplete, much to my annoyance, so I missed out on all the genocide. Do you suppose that could have been Groot’s home world? 😉
One of the rejected propsals for TAS, (according to the making of TMP book) was the Enterprise crew destroying a whole lot of hostile aliens. The book doesn’t say which animation studio made that pitch.

I’m rewatching TNG on Amazon Prime, and it’s the first time I’ve ever actually watched the entire series completely in order. I forgot how almost every episode early on basically involved the crew facing a problem, and then half way through Wesley Crusher would come in and say, “Pardon me, but I’m a brilliant genius and I know how to solve this”. Can’t wait until he leaves the show.
The Person in Question
Yeah the first season blows compared to the later ones.
Btw, Netflix>Amazon prime for better video quality. At least in my experience, although it could have been a fluke.
Maybe, but you don’t have to pay extra on Prime to watch 4k…
Not that I’ve done so.
Pardon me if I will sound too harsh, but right now I’m seriously pissed about those CBS bastards, but why the f*** does everybody seem to hate Wesley Crusher? He was my favourite TNG character when I was younger but I really have a problem finding any positive comments about him online. The same with Enterprise - for me it was the best Trek show since TNG, especially the first 3 seasons before it got crappy for the last season, but it looks like everybody (at least from the USA) hates the first 3 seasons and likes the fourth one.

The one time I rented a movie from Prime I clicked HD and it came in 720p without informing me whereas Netflix has 1080. This was several years ago though, so it could have changed.
Prime has the SD versions too, which is a bonus.

I hated Wesley in the beginning myself, but I found he grew on me in the later, better seasons.
Maybe they’re jealous because he got to make out with Ashley Judd:
I don’t necessarily have a problem with Wesley Crusher, I just found it horribly distracting that he a 15 year-old kid was constantly in the midst of the action and sitting in on board room meetings. I also didn’t like how much of a brilliant genius they made him in every episode.
By the way, I don’t know if this is still the case, but the TNG episodes on Netflix as of about about a year ago were very poor compared to what Amazon has. Amazon has HD episodes while Netflix had some king of low quality transfers.

Wesley was Roddenberry’s Mary Sue. Once you know that, it all makes (out-of-universe) sense.
No longer the case. All TNG episodes have been updated to their HD counterparts.
Nobody sang The Bunny Song in years…
Yeah, NETFLIX has been on their game as of late when it comes to updating their catalog with the latest transfers. They’ve done so now with TNG, Twin Peaks and The X-Files.
That’s good to hear. I remember their old transfers of TNG being very difficult to watch. I would describe it as watching a VHS tape on my computer monitor.
The Person in Question
Probably because they were sourced from Beta VHS. But yes the new transfers on Netflix are great. Plus they have some video fixes of errors on the blu rays… Not sure if Amazon has these fixes or not.
