Well the trailers for the last 2 movies were unfortunately a very good representation of the actual movies 😦

but there are times when trailers are not good representations of the actual movies. The only way to know for sure is to watch the movie.

Pegg was obviously disappointed with the trailer, but he also participated in the first two movies. I assume he thought they were decent Trek films.

I’m usually a stickler for a quality presentation, but I’ll be catching this one on Netflix.

I didn’t see a trailer in front of TFA. There weren’t as many trailers as I was expecting though. It must vary from theater chain to chain.

Where were you in '77?

Not sure what the look on Pegg’s face should mean. He either seriously needs to pee, or thinks the movie sucks and is not good at lying.

The trailer was shown even here in Slovakia. Together with 20 minutes of other trailers unfortunately 😃

He could have just said…

"Before Star Wars, the films that were box-office hits were The Godfather,
Taxi Driver, Bonnie and Clyde and The French Connection – gritty, amoral art movies.
Then suddenly the onus switched over to spectacle and everything changed.
Now, I don’t know if that is a good thing. Obviously I’m very much
a self-confessed fan of science-fiction and genre cinema. But part of me
looks at society as it is now and just thinks we’ve been infantilised
by our own taste. Now we’re essentially all consuming very childish
things – comic books, superheroes… Adults are watching this
stuff, and taking it seriously.

It is a kind of dumbing down in a way. Because it's taking our focus

away from real-world issues. Films used to be about challenging,
emotional journeys or moral questions that might make you walk away
and re-evaluate how you felt about… whatever.

Now we're walking out of the cinema really not thinking about anything,

other than the fact that the Hulk just had a fight with a robot.
But I sometimes feel like I miss grown-up things.
And I honestly thought the other day that I’m gonna retire from geekdom.
I’ve become the poster child for that generation,
and it’s not necessarily something I particularly want to be.
I’d quite like to go off and do some serious acting."

Welp, Axanar got sued. Unfortunately, they’re not going down without a fight, which means that things are going to get REALLY ugly out there. I read through the motion, CBS/Paramount are not wrong. Axanar needs to prove that they aren’t making ANY money from the project, and even then that might get them out of only some of it.

It’s the “potential damages” part that worries me. Axanar fans are well known for not being fans of the new franchise direction and are already talking boycotts, which plays right into the hands of what they’re fighting against. If CBS/Paramount can say that they missed out on a multi-billion dollar movie like TFA because of Axanar fans, they could sue for millions.

Which is why we shit all over it with mediocre theatrical releases and refuse to remaster any of the TOS and TNG films besides WOK.

I thought the blu rays of TNG movies looked pretty good.

They’re not the worst I’ve seen, but they don’t look like film at all. DNR’d almost to the point of looking like video.

Actually, the paperwork specifically mentions that Axanar isn’t parody so can’t claim Fair Use. You still have a chance!

Star Trek is a treasured franchise for Paramount and CBS? What ?

They forced the producers of Enterprise to switch from 35mm film to 1080p digital for the last year, and it looks like shit. A few months later they cancelled Enterprise. They seriously considered to release just DVD upscales for the TNG Blurays. They wanted to only reuse the shitty DVD bonus material instead of making the great new documentaries and restoring the deleted scenes. They refuse to do HD versions of TAS, DS9, and VOY. They refused to do new CG effects for the Blurays of Enterprise and instead insisted on using shitty looking upscales. They didn’t want to do any new VAM for the Enterprise Blurays. All the DVDs used the same shitty NTSC masters as the VHS tapes and laserdiscs, the only reason why TOS got later remastered for DVD was that a different company paid for the remastering. They refuse to do any Star Trek movies and instead of them they feed us with random crappy action flicks which have nothing to do with Star Trek except the title and some character names. They start a new TV show (but with a showrunner which is responsible for the shitty movies) only because they finally understood that the fans are still not dead and they’re watching the fan films.

Star Trek is in very bad hands. In hands of businessmen who know how to make money but have no idea why the original show and TNG became a part of modern culture. They say ST is a treasured franchise for them, but they behave like it’s that unwanted child they’re just tolerating because it’s useful for them.

This is going to warp core breach in their greedy corporate faces. You do not piss off Trek fans. It’s bad P.R., especially with the 50th anniversary around the corner.

Jury selection for this could get interesting if it gets to trial. Even if they don’t have a case, there could be a chilling effect on other fan productions.

Yeah, and thanks to Paramuck, we may now never get to see the entire thing.

Yeah it’s a real shame. I was really excited for this. Have been for months. It was shaping up to possibly be the first decent Trek film since First Contact IMO (or maybe Trek '09 if I’m feeling generous).
