Couple of random thoughts/musings:
- Is Princess Leia the new Jar Jar Binks? Her acting was so wooden. There was nothing behind her aged face that reminded me of Princess Leia. When I saw Han Solo bound thru the door of the Falcon the first time, he seemed very much like Han Solo. I didnt see Princess Leai in this film at all. Fisher might as well have been playing a different character. Will Leia become a drag on each film gong forward?
I’m having trouble connecting this part to the rest of your point. Is everything we don’t like in Star Wars automatically the new Jar Jar Binks? Jar Jar sucks because he’s racist and shrill. That comparison should mean something more specific than “not good”.
Allow me to draw the connection. Jar Jar was useless and was there to attract kids. Leia is useless and is here to attract (some of) OT fans.
I knew she would suck if she appeared again and I said so back when she was confirmed for the role. A lot of people here were “flaming” me back then for that.
What I’m trying to relate with my Fisher as Jar Jar comment is will she become the new hate magnet that draws criticism in all three movies?
The Force Awakens was by no means a bad film but Fisher’s continued lack luster performance and inability to relate back to Princess Leia will be a distraction in the new trilogy and perhaps the one consistent low point assuming all else goes well. And if all else nose dives, she will be cited endlessly as a negative root cause. Perhaps she just wasnt given much to work with though I find that unlikely given who the director is and his reputation as an actor’s director. Maybe what we got in the finished film was all JJ could allow. Will future directors be forced to unceremoniously push her into the background as Lucas did with Jar Jar and thus drawing even more criticism?
I know it sounds mean. I feel bad for her as she has recently tweeted that comments about her appearance have taken their toll on her especially comments about plastic surgery. But she can turn things around with a less wooden performance.
She is Princess Friggen Leia and we love her and want her back.
