The quote’s from a Kasdan interview that may have already been posted in one of the TFA threads, but Larry says Episode VIII is going to be “weird”:
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/star-wars-8-is-going-to-be-weird-promises-screenwriter-a6788031.html

Let’s hope.

Agreed. This actually makes me genuinely excited(er).

I also agree with Duracell; we got snubbed of a semi-Lynchian Star Wars film in the 80’s so I want something that’s at least vaguely similar. A Dune-ish vibe to an SW film could be really cool.
Of course I suspect Kasdan is just referencing a Force-moment similar to the Dagobah cave scene in ESB, but even that would be awesome. Now that lightsaber can give you visions, I’m hoping Johnson will take it somewhere further. I’m tired of the Force being treated as a pre-set roster of superpowers, I wan’t it to be weird, magical, and I want new abilities. It doesn’t need to Dark Empire weird (although I’d honestly watch that with great enthusiasm), but I want something mystical.

This recently hit me, but I think what I fear most is how the old remaining cast is handled in the next two films. I guess technically Leia is the only ‘surviving’ OT character going forward, so what will she do? Will the next film fade her out where you either never hear of her or she’s only mentioned by name? Do they plan to kill her off?

I would mention Chewie here, but they have a new actor in the suit for most of the walking/action shots. I wouldn’t be surprised if Peter declined to get back in character. Chewie might possibly be in the next two films without dying, and I wouldn’t really mind.

Either you’re forgetting all about Luke or you know something awful that I haven’t heard yet.

I feel real silly here, but yes, I have no idea why I forgot him in my post. Although, I oddly think Luke will be handled fine since he has more to work with. Leia/Chewie, they’re more ‘supporting’ characters in the new films I’d imagine.

I could see Chewie continuing through this trilogy and beyond for continuity’s sake simply because they aren’t beholden to one particular actor, especially because I get the feeling R2 and 3PO aren’t going to get the screentime they did in the prequels. 20 years from now when they want to do another trilogy and Mark’s in his eighties and Carrie’s close behind, they’re going to want a link to the originals that doesn’t come with the limitations of old age.

Of course, the hope that they’ll wait that long for X, XI and XII is probably foolish, but let a fool hope.

I think it’s a safe bet Peter’s been teaching his replacement to avoid a Harry and The Hendersons scenario.

Worst case scenario :

Without the protection of the fleet of the New Republic,

“Worst case?” I find that to actually be pretty exciting.

What I also liked in TFA is the attention they paid on some details. For example they used the ANH stormtrooper rank shoulder pads (white seemingly being sergeant and red lieutenant).

Of course it’s exciting. TESB is a damn good movie.

If you’re still missing the point…

What if Luke taught Han to come back as a ghost to haunt Kylo.
That way his death would be another annoying callback to the original trilogy but he still could redeem his son from beyond the grave.
Han and Leia might know his death would be necessary to break through Supreme Leader Snoop’s influence.
These next films are meant to be weird right?
Ghost Han is kind of weird (sort of silly too).

Why bother with ghost Han when they can just use clone Han? Haan and Haaan to the rescue!

This seems like as good a place as any to speculate on the upcoming films. I saw The Force Awakens for the 3rd time this morning and I never noticed this on the first 2 viewings, but the scene at the end where Rey meets Luke for the first time, it would appear that Luke is standing in front of a make-shift grave and there is a flat slanted stone that looks like it could be crude headstone. Could this belong to a Mrs Skywalker? or Rey’s mother ? or both?

Aye, my guess it is the grave of Luke’s wife - who was also Ray’s mum. I’m usually wrong on these guesses though…

pics deleted - apologies.

I don’t think you’re supposed to post camcorder-screenshots on the forum. They don’t exactly look like official pictures released by Disney, Lucasfilm, etc.
Or maybe it doesn’t matter at this point, I don’t know. Just thought I’d mention it.

Boyega describes Johnson’s script as “Much darker,” so although I don’t think there was ever much doubt, they’re definitely going for the ESB vibe.
He also described part in ep. VIII as "much more physical-"

If it is a grave, it doesn’t necessarily need to be someone Luke had a personal connection with. It’s the first Jedi temple, right? The headstone could belong to someone with historical significance.

Although I’ve not read the TFA novelisation myself, I read somewhere that the book describes Poe’s escape from the wrecked Tie-fighter.

Doesn’t Poe mention something to Finn about waking up and not knowing where he was before he tells him to keep the jacket in the movie?
