For those not enjoying captchas, etc. I found that Mega worked surprisingly well (and tons faster than uloz, compared to the free tier), and didn’t deal in captchas. The only issue I had was that after about 3GB downloaded, I’d get an error that chrome ran out of HTML5 storage space. Under Linux (and I’m sure this would work for most OSes), I just had to in Chrome go to chrome://settings/cookies search for Mega and then kill what I found there, then I was good for up to another 3GB. This being due to Mega through “browser downloads” storing stuff in a cache before writing to the destination, and not clearing out completed downloads. Apparently their app doesn’t have the problem, if one is so inclined, though this really is the only time I’ve used their site (impressed, overall, actually), and I’m not about to install extra stuff for just one download. Anyway, hope that helps someone.

Yes. Their app is fine and so is jdownloader. Browser is usually okay for things of this size, but I’ve had bad luck over 10gb.

No captcha problems.

Do you have to fill in captchas for the mega links as well?

Mega seems to be working much better. It’s not screaming at me for captchas. Thanks, Harmy. 😃

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

The timestamp doesn’t seem obtrusive at all. It’s tiny and it’s on the bottom black bar.

If people still find it distracting I can offer a solution to get rid of it:

  • hook up a laptop to your TV with a HDMI cable
  • play the file with VLC
  • right click and go to “video”, “crop”, and select 2.35:1 or 2.39:1 (whichever ratio Jedi is in)

This will put black bars over the original black bars with the timestamp.

I just used Plex to stream it to my Roku and the timecode didn’t show up at all. I don’t know if it’s my contrast settings or it’s being cropped out or what, but it’s missing on the TV but present on my laptop. I’m not complaining, everything else looks spectacular.

Man, I really hate to say it, but I’m liking the film scan parts more than the Blu-ray parts, I think… Would not mind a cleaned up full film scan, I’ll tell you that much, that would be ultimately classic. Anyway, this is all great so far, Harmy.

Oh, and to be clearer about what I was saying earlier in my praise of Mega, I literally got parts 2-15 in the time it took to get part 1 from uloz.

00:27:36 pretty sure there is a missing sub about “bring me Solo and the Wookie, they will all pay for this outrage”.

What constitutes a glitch in this case? Are SE changes that have been left in considered a glitch?

00:29.30 is that edge enhancement on the people on the skiff outside the window?

He just means unknowns that crop up. Overall, it is better, and he thinks it is good enough to show us, we’ll end up picking it apart and strangely enough make it better.

This is clearly the version to watch, from what I’ve already seen. Just don’t go out of your way to archive it and make it a part of your permanent collection, things will change for the better shortly, but this is better than we could have hoped for even a week ago for pre-TFA viewing.

At about 27:37, subtitle for “Bring Solo and the Wookie” is missing.

In response to this edit, yes, an SE change that slips in should be reported, not sure if it is a “glitch” or not in this context, but it would be a must fix for this sort of release.

I also want to add that DAMN! That 35MM fotage looks wonderful! The stuff at the Sarlacc pit is astoundingly good looking.

All I’ve noticed so far are some recomps left in. I won’t point them out since they’re not noticeable unless your going along with the complete changes photos.

Recomps should be noted, as long as they aren’t screen wipes, I believe.

00:37:12 Is this where the TIE fighters are supposed to disappear? If so, they don’t.

Alright, well the TIE fighters and shuttle in the beginning are digital comps. This is between 2:20 and 2:30.

1:56:13 matte painting extension is still there, as well as the recomped explosion.

2:00:00 occasional film damage/dirt around Shaw’s face Nothing too terrible.

2:02:13 quite a bit of film damage on the Death Star explosion.

2:04:36 ships flicker in and out of existence.

Quite a bit of noticeable gate weave whenever 35MM shots are occurring.

This, plus what I already pointed out, are all I noticed in a quick look over the film. I didn’t watch the entire thing, just skipped around to the areas with the most prominent SE changes. Overall, this is a ridiculously huge improvement over 1.0.

My apologies if it’s already been noted, but the “Bring Solo and the Wookiee to me. They will suffer for this outrage” doesn’t exist on this workprint.

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

“I have come for the bounty on this Wookiee” was missing.

the last frame of a shot being a bit differently colored or stuff like that.

Yeah, I found one. Did you want us to mark those down for you? It’s at 00:36:17:07, in the middle of the wipe transition into the gang flying away from Tatooine.

Thanks Harmy. Watching it on a 10 foot screen via DLP. Can’t wait to see the high bitrate, fully color corrected version. The 35mm scenes really do show promise for upping the quality of this project.

“Alright twinkle-toes, what’s your exit strategy?”

Hi Harmy –

Registered just to chime in on the ROTJ workprint. First off, fantastic job! Huge improvement in quality over the last edition. It was a real treat to see the movie this way before TFA. Thank you for doing this.

I noticed some of the things that others have already mentioned, but I also noticed a shot that is definitely from the 2011 Blu-Ray changes: at right around 1:42:24 (1:42:18 on the workprint timecode in the lower left) the shot of R2D2 “shorting out” still has all of the digitally added gadgets and animation. That’s the big error I noticed. Thanks again for all the hard work!

Signing off,
Wierzbowski
