Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1 — Page 60

Any suggestions on where to upload the 8GB workprint that would be safe, fast and accessible to everyone? I would probably put it on uloz.to as usual but can someone suggest a better place?

Oh, did they increase their free cloud drive space? I already have the SW and ESB AVCHDs and DVD5s there and I remember it telling me I didn’t have enough space left on my account last time I tried uploading something there but it seems like now I have 30GB left available there, so I think I will use that. Thanks 😃

Another question: What do you guys think would be the best format? I’m encoding using the same settings I used for the SW and ESB AVCHDs but what should I mux to to maximize compatibility?

I was thinking about muxing to mkv but including tsmuxer.exe with a batch file to create a BD ISO for those who want to burn it to BD. Would that be possible? Also, how about a batch file for swapping audio? Can that be done?

Really, I think the main people you should consider are the ones who are not on these forums (youtubers, etc). I think many of us use tsmuxer and advise others to do so, so batch conversions might not be needed. Most people will want something they can click and play (mkv, mp4, etc) and people seem to be confused by BDMV folders, etc. The few who want to burn discs can figure out tsmuxer. But it might not be a bad idea to include the gui app and a quick .txt about it.

I for one would like the .mkv format then I would not have to do any conversion myself. But, if you stick with the format you’ve used in the past, it might be more flexible for the majority of users.

Yeah, I guess I’ll go with MKV and include tsmuxer with short instructions on how to make a BD ISO.

Author

Did you decide on whether you will include a time stamp?

On the one hand, for my pre-TFA viewing, I would of course like it to look clean. But the time stamp is helpful for subsequent feedback to you. I guess we can always just grab the exact time info from VLC.

Author
Time

Since this is a workprint, I don’t think many will burn discs for it. I won’t, and I usually do.

Author

Since this isn’t a normal broad release, but rather something quick for frothing purists who are in-the-know to consume before TFA (and also give feedback on, of course), I don’t see much reason to go out of your way to make concessions for patching in foreign language dubs. On the other hand, burning to disc doesn’t matter as much to me now as it once did, though I’m sure there’ll be some people who either want to bring it and show it somewhere, or continue to toil with largely dead-end alternatives to having a good media player attached to their screens and would need a disc to fall back on; so instructions for making a disc would likely be worthwhile (though we should disclaim that there is an expected level of technical competence with this preview release and limit how much effort we put into supporting the burning process, until something more official comes out). My only question is, if you’re encoding this as you did the AVCHD, did you really mean it when you said it would be for burning to a Blu-ray disc (what about DVD9)? Or should I say, is a BD ISO just for burning to BD, or would it also work with a DVD9?

I’d be very happy with a nice, straightforward mkv.

Yeah MKV. Sure it’ll be a huge improvement over 1.0, but it’s still a workprint. No need to build a big ecosystem around it.

(Sadly) yes. I mean, it is absolutely awesome that Harmy is providing a Workprint as preview, but in the times of large disk spaces and cloud services I would prefer a 20 GB and up encode like SW and ESB are, i am a quality fetishist… I want to burn it to a BD-R, I want to watch it on my TV to enjoy it and find bugs if there are any. In my usual environment instead of sitting in front of my computer. 😃 Hopefully the 8GB file fits on a DVD-R. First world problems, lol.

Anyway, looking forward to the Workprint! 😃

Here’s the NFO:

THIS IS A WORKPRINT OF RETURN OF THE JEDI - DESPECIALIZED EDITION REMASTERED (v2.0)

This is a fan preservation made for culturally historical and educational purposes.
Fanedits and preservations must not be bought or sold.
Please report every fanedit or preservation you find for sale to webmasters of originaltrilogy.com.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This is a reconstruction of the 1983 theatrical version of Return of the Jedi. The original shots were painstakingly restored using various sources and the film received an extensive shot by shot color correction.

The remastered version (v2.0) represents a significant improvement in picture quality over the earlier 1.0 version
due to the use of better encoding and higher quality sources and replacing many of the despecialized shots with
higher quality ones.

This is a workprint version meant for quality control purposes - this means, that there may be some glitches, as well as some unfinished shots - please report any issues you find here:

http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Harmys-RETURN-OF-THE-JEDI-Despecialized-Edition-HD-AVCHD-DVD9-and-NTSC-DVD5-available-SEE-FIRST-POST/id/12905

or on facebook.com/despecialized/

Color-correction in this workprint is very much temporary, so there isn’t much point in commenting on that.

This is an MKV version, which can be played on computers but should also play from a USB device on most modern TVs and media players.

Included are the subtitles from Project Threepio v8.3. More info here:
http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Project-Threepio-Star-Wars-OOT-subtitles/id/13794

This workprint only includes hairy_hen’s 5.1 purist audio mix. If you want to add alternate audio tracks, they need to be synced to the NTSC 2006 DVD.

If you want to add any alternate audio or subtitle tracks (for example a differnt language dubbing) you can use MKV Toolnix,
which can be found here: http://www.videohelp.com/software/MKVtoolnix

Open “mkvtoolnix-gui.exe”, drag and drop the “ROTJ v2.0 Workprint.mkv” into the program. Then drop in the audio or subtitle file
you want to add and in the window that pops up, choose “Add as new input file”. Then in “output file” at the bottom of the window,
you can choose where you want your new file to be created and then hit the “Start muxing” button.

If you want to create a burnable ISO, which will play in your Blu-Ray player when burned to a BD25 or DVD9, you can use TS Muxer,
which can be found here: http://www.videohelp.com/software/tsMuxeR

Open “tsMuxerGUI.exe”, drag and drop the “ROTJ v2.0 Workprint.mkv” into the program. Then you can drop in any audio or subtitle file
you may want to add.
In “Output” choose “Blu-Ray ISO” and choose where you want your new file to be created and then hit the “start muxing” button.

Works for me. There are updated subtitles on the way, but I’d rather go with the current ones for the workprint.

Is the 2.0 version available for download yet? Which site did you end up going with?

Thanks,

Sounds pretty clear and straightforward to me. Let’s do this!

Will you provide a link to the download here when it’s available?

I’ll be checking my e-mail every 5 min. now waiting for that link since I know it’s coming soon.

This forum continues to exist by not directly supplying these kinds of works, so no, don’t expect an actual link here when it is ready.

Harmy, your NFO says the workprint is for quality control and it may have glitches.

Am I better off watching RETURN OF THE JEDI v1.0

Or is the workprint still better, despite glitches?

We’ve seen previews of Lapti Nek, the Sarlacc, and the eyebrows now. They all look much better that the 1.0 GOUT elements.

The ESB 2.0 workprint had some glitches here and there but nothing that broke it, IIRC.

I’ll certainly be giving WP 2.0 a shot for my watch-through. I just won’t be burning it and putting it on a shelf.
