  1. Female protagonists Q. Haven’t we had enough of poor female characters in PT? A. Yes they added nothing!

I hope this is a joke. If not, please leave this site forever.

PT=Prequel trilogy (padme and the one that looked the same) and yes whilst they weren’t true protagonists they had a lot of wasted screen time, but on reflection the whole PT was wasted film never mind screen time. I wasn’t having a dig at Leia 😉

It’s sad that you think that the term “PT” was what needed addressing about your post. Not, y’know, the misogyny.

Are you for real? Wooden acting and shite character development doesn’t mean I’m a misogynist

It does when you specifically take issue with female main characters as if they deserve singling out as worse than male ones.

You didn’t just criticise wooden acting/characters. You attributed it specifically to a particular gender.

And you’d be right Natalie Portman and Keira knightley were less than usless in ‘those films’. And yes all other actors were just as bad , especially Ewan McGregor who killed the films from the very off, but sadly these films never stood a chance of being anything else but turd.

About Abrams, yesterday I (tried) to watch again Mission Impossible 3 to study his directing and, screenplay aside (which, I HOPE, he had nothing to do with), here’s my opinion:

-the way he put faces VERY CLOSE to the frame is painful to watch, making the resulting screen look cropped. I think he said they look more “intimate”, but they just look bad compositions to me;

-I understand quickly switching between shots is useful to give a sense of tension, but during gunfights he completely abused of this “trick”, making half of the time hard to tell what is really going on;

-to this, add “lens flares”: they’re so strong (especially in the helicopter scene), that basically cover almost half the screen, making hard to se what’s going on (though Abrams recently said he is aware of this issue and he’s going to use them less);

-camera shaking: common “trick” to make the scene look live and add tension. He shaked it half the times so much (even when unnecessary) that it kind of gives you headache (again, helicopter scene).

So, so far I dislike his directing. Later on, I turned up TV and watched “Killer Joe” which was directed by William Friedkin, and his work looks WAY more professional than Abrams’s.

Director of The Exocist, a fine film

As they were evacuating the planet, the snowspeeders were expendable. It would be a waste of resources to commit X-Wings to a ground invasion, when they were needed to help protect to the transports.

There are already big warning signs for me

  1. The BB8 droid…Q. needed? A. No, we already have R2.

If you don’t know the story, then you can’t know if BB-8’s presence is superfluous, can you?

  1. Some of the creatures. Q. Its got Simon peg inside it so its cool. A. I don’t care and i’m not interested in celebs.

“Some of the creatures”. Can you be anymore vague and non-specific?

  1. Space ships battling above land (as seen in trailer) Q. Star Wars? A. Yes, indicates battles in SPACE.

The former doesn’t preclude the possibility of the latter.

  1. The title Q. couldn’t you think of anything else. A. The Force never went to sleep you thick c***

What’s in a name, anyway?

  1. Female protagonists Q. Haven’t we had enough of poor female characters in PT? A. Yes they added nothing!

By this logic, we shouldn’t have male protagonists, either, since we’ve all had enough of poor male characters in the PT, am I right?

  1. No Sith? Q: Isn’t there a darkside in Star Wars A. No, not anymore we have a new baddy though who like Siths WTF!!

I don’t know what you’re bitching about here. You don’t like the absence of Sith in the movie? That’s the filmmakers didn’t bother making Ren more visually unique in keeping with his status as a new kind of darksider?

If the former, boo-hoo; the Sith suck and they’ve almost singlehandedly ruined the franchise. If the latter, I’ll actually agree with you; Ren’s design is generic and lame.

Let me just say TFA will be massive let down to any purist. The darkside of the force=SITH even the shitty prequels kept to that! I assume Ren is the son of Leia (in order for him to have force powers) and thus Vader was his Granddad (hence why he “will finish what he began” then surely he should be a SITH and not the knights who say Ni!! Is Luke no longer a Jedi>? Or have they reworked that as well? I’ll just watch my laser discs and forget these films ever happened although sadly I can’t as I was genuinely distraught when leaving the cinema after viewing TPM. I liken it to a death in the family.

Since it just came up in off-topic, I’m going to say three things.

  1. I’m guessing you are too young to have had a death in the family yet.
  2. I’m guessing that I’m going to get a pass for breaking the forum rules in #3.
  3. You’re a dick.

You are wrong on 2 points, insulting people from behind a keyboard and picking on punctuation on a forum obviously makes you feel better about yourself. I feel sorry for you.

It was the prequels that introduced having darkside users being Sith. The OT had ONE Dark Lord of the Sith; Vader. Palpatine wasn’t a Sith until the prequels and then everybody became a Darth . Sith weren’t even mentioned in the OT. So this whole thing with the Sith is a prequel thing.

We’ve already seen there is a battle in space in one of the trailers.

But why do there have to be battles in space? Empire didn’t have a single battle in space. Just chases. The battle was on the ground. Just because the film has the title Star wars, does not mean that every battle has to take place in Space.

No, it doesn’t. The OT doesn’t even use the stupid name.

Of course they did! They established it!

It’s one thing if you end up disappointed by the story, but some of the complaining and nitpicking about little, insignificant details in a movie you HAVENT SEEN YET is ridiculous. The kind of people who make up their mind about something before they give it a chance are ridiculous. We know the prequels suck because most of us went in with open minds hoping and wanting them to be good. But if you go into a movie wanting it to suck, you’re just going to convince yourself it sucks because you’ve already made up your mind.

My thoughts are it is ether going to be awesome or The worst star wars YET, But the many directing it wrote the T.V show Lost ( THE BEST TV SHOW EVER ) So the move will be in good hands Hopes up. IF IT IS STILL GOD AWFUL. Than we cures Disney out and blame them for its shit

Well actually JJ Abrams had very little to do with Lost beyond the Pilot episode.

Honestly I’m not expecting it to be the best thing ever, and I’m not expecting it to suck. I’m expecting something on par with ROTJ without the ewoks.

Well I consider ROTJ (even minus the ewoks) to be a good film, not a great film. I have gripes that a lot of plot points are rehashed from ANH (which from what I’ve seen seems to be the case also with TFA) and that some things were a bit too silly in serious moments. To me it’s still the weakest of the three even without the ewoks, which is not to say it’s a bad film, just not quite on par with SW and ESB. But I still love ROTJ and think it’s a fun film with the right amount of emotion. So I’m saying that I think TFA will be about that quality, with the issues. Good story, well done characters, emotional moments, occasional silliness in inappropriate moments, rehashed story points from ANH, some things that I have gripes with, but overall a good, fun movie that I can watch, have a good time with, and be moved by.

I would also like to add that I think some of the individual moments in ROTJ are better than those in SW or ESB (particularly between emperor/vader/Luke), but that the overall film was not better. I’m kind of expecting this from TFA as well. I’m almost sure there will be some phenomenal moments within the film that rival those in the OT, but the film overall I think won’t quite be up to that caliber. Once again, that doesn’t mean I think it’ll suck, far from it. It would be a challenge for almost any movie to compete with Empire. Saying “not quite as good as empire” is basically saying “it was a damn good flick.”
