Watching Star Wars As A One Year Old

I thought this was interesting, but wondered if people can actually remember watching the 1977 film at such a young age. A one year old watching Star Wars at a drive-in movie theater would have to be quite an experience. So, with this new movie, I wonder if it would be such an event as it seemed to be to a one year old watching Star Wars in 1977. Just remembering my first experience watching the movie, it was very different than watching anything else. I wonder if this new Star Wars movie will have the same distinction.

By the way, I think the voice distortion is because the author of the video wants to sound drunk because of his name, or just to disguise his voice for whatever purpose. However, it does bring back a lot of memories to me of that first experience watching the original Star Wars, and why it was such a massive event which I have never forgotten.

I can’t deal with that vocal effect for more than 30 seconds. I saw Jurassic Park at the drive in when I was three and can vaguely recollect the experience, though, so I think I know what you mean?

Yeah, but I remember every single moment of that first Star Wars film like no other movie I have ever seen. Even other movies I saw when I was much younger. I don’t think any other movie has accomplished that.

Only if its parents brought something interesting for it to play with and put it in its car seat while they watched the movie.

From birth to three months, babies’ eyes can’t focus on objects more than about ten inches from their face. Their eyes can’t accommodate (change shape to change focus). They don’t really start to develop hand\eye coordination until about nine months. By twelve months they can judge distance pretty well. What they can’t do is see or understand something happening on a movie screen three hundred feet away.

A friend of mine was a year and a half old in May of 1980 when his parents brought him to see Empire.

I told him how jealous I was that he got to see it on the big screen during its original run, even though he doesn’t remember it at all.

I was seven when I saw Star Wars in 1977.
I think that’s the best age to introduce a child to that level of fantasy.
I was beginning to become cynical. I had already deduced where Christmas presents and babies came from but this fully restored the pilot light of wonder that Time Lord from Gallifrey had been tending to up until that point.
The bathroom sink was still the Tardis console but climbing on the bath and loo was my switching off the tractor beam (it would later be a certain Bespin gantry).
It’s suprising I didn’t break my neck.

I was only 1 in 1977. I do recall seeing SW in the theater though – in 1982. In retrospect I’ve come to find that my memory is confirmed by the fact that there was a re-release that summer. I never saw ESB in the theater. But did see ROTJ the following year in the theater. I even remember waiting in line to see that and the theater I saw it at, which no longer exists. A four screen multiplex (four screen!).

I’m sure one of my past lives watched SW during its original run in theatres. Does that count?

I think I saw the 97SE on VHS in 1997 or 1998, so probably I was either 3 or 4 years old, but I don’t remember very much about ANH.
Santa Claus Lucas talked about how he “improved” the movie with Vader’s figure standing in front of him;
I had trouble understanding the dialogues (especially when talking about politics);
I found the droids’ scenes on Tatooine boring, but I always let them play anyway;
I think I liked Mos Espa’s sequences because they were the first steps towards Luke’s new journey;
Luke’s training with his BLUE lightsaber, of course 😉
Chewie going nuts was always funny on the Death Star, and “Boring conversation anyway” always made me laugh 😄
I also think I liked the garbage masher’s scene, though I don’t specifically remember why. But I was scared that they could actually get smashed; I don’t remember feeling sorry for Obi-wan, though, probably because he “sounded” still alive 😄
I didn’t understand they had to destroy the Death Star on time, so I found the dogfights boring;
when the Death Star finally exploded, I think my father told me that it would show up again in ROTJ because it wasn’t COMPLETELY destroyed, starting a false myth 😄
Overall, I think I liked TESB and ROTJ more (Ewoks not included!), even though they were much more mature and “creepy” 😄

P.S.: when I saw TPM a few years later, I remember saying to myself that it was fine (except for the obvious retcons) and that it was more “modern” (not in a good way) compared to the OT because the film was faster paced than TESB 😄

WRONG MOS!

Right, it’s Mos Eisley space port, of course 😄

P.S.: btw, I forgot writing about my experience with “Greedo shot first”! As I said, I saw the 97SE first, but that scene was so fast and odd (and on a “pan and scan” VHS), that I didn’t figure it out what exactly had happened, except that Han somehow had killed the “alien” with his “gun”. So my father than told me this: that Han had shot the blaster under the table, its bolt had deflected onto the wall and finally against the “alien”, killing him 😄 So, completely misunderstanding that scene, it was still “Han shot first” to us 😄

I vaguely remember hearing “Help me Obi-Wan. You’re our only hope.” when I was very little. It had to have been either the 95 faces vhs or the 97 se vhs, or a tv broadcast of either the original or the 97se.

I remember reading it first in the UK Marvel adaptation and thinking his name was Ob Van Kenob for some reason 😄

I went to see Star Wars first time round. I don’t remember the movie watching experience,I was 4-5, I remember being carried home on my dads shoulders and discussing it. And I may have had the proggrame mag which I drew all over in pen.
