People are in contact with him. Please don’t scare him off again.

I’ll never understand why the movie studios think they improve the picture with DNR and EE. It’s horrible.

Believe it or not, the majority of the population does not notice how bad it looks.

I guess I’m one of them, then. I guess the grain was a distraction.

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

will we ever get back to the future trilogy with no dnr and no edge enhancement plus 4k mastered transfers and color corrected? the currant transfers suck. do we have to wait until we get a 4k blu ray release?

Have to wait until we get a 4k BD release? In a word… yes. Or maybe more like… because they might do the films justice on the 4k format and then again maybe not. I am guessing yes though. Universal is starting to be more respectable, somewhat.

The question is whether the 4K master they have has all the dnr and ee as well or whether it is like the DCP. I have doubts that the digital master they have is even 4K, so there is a chance they would need to rescan it for 4K, hopefully this time without DNR and EE.

The current scan for BTTF is almost certainly 2K (or maybe 1080p).

Thankfully the arrival of Ultra HD Blu-ray means that film studios have an incentive to re-scan their catalog titles in 4K so they can put it out on the new format.

Some companies have even begun to re-release titles on regular ol’ Blu-ray with new 4K transfers. Doubt that’ll happen with BTTF, though.

Help me out here, I honestly have trouble seeing what’s wrong with the picture. Could someone point an example out to me or something?

JMO is correct about the flaw. But my advice on this forum is that if you don’t see the problem, don’t ask! Ignorance is bliss. 😃

You and me both. Yeah, I can see the DNR and EE, but it really doesn’t look waxy or destroy the look of the film for me. Obviously the older issues like improper framing or pink yellows are an issue, but this does not look that bad to me.

There are some shots that are worse as far as wax goes (especially in part II). But I agree that it doesn’t make the film unwatchable.

On the one hand, I like that many of us have high standards for how film releases should be done. And I hope, as better transfers are done for 4K releases (or at least 4K remasters), that film restorations improve. However, I think as a group we constantly convince ourselves that so many things are unwatchably terrible unless fixed by our own hands. Everything looks like shit when you’re analyzing it for DVNR, Orange/Teal, exact cropping, etc, instead of actually watching it as a film.

well SilverWook were there not any takers for DocBosch bttf 3 print?

Is there an echo in here?

I have no idea what’s going on with that print or any similar one. Given the potential damage that was almost done when someone talked about BTTF prints in the wrong place last year, it’s probably better that way.

here the dcp image has the right amount of grain where the blu ray makes faces look waxy etc. http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=874&d2=4005&s1=37253&s2=37257&i=4&l=0

Look at the lights in this shot. Perfect example of how the EE and DNR is adding garbage that isnt supposed to be there.
