Actually, I read somewhere that they actually cut more out of the broadcasted Japanese version than they did for the one they broadcasted on CN.

I think you read wrong.

Most anime cut all kinds of things out that they do allow on Japanese TV.
But hey, superman says we can slap a jap, so I guess we should go do so.

No, I definitely read this. The example given was when the guy reached up Faye's thigh on Honkey Tonk Women. It was cut for the Japanese version, but left in for the US release.

There's an Anime called.

And I thought Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal Panic were strange names. But why a Japnese cartoon about a hillbilly theme?

Honkey Tonk Women was like the name of the 3rd ep in Bebop, its named after a song by the Rolling Stones.

For a DVD release? LOTR filmed scenes that they knew weren't going to be put in the theatrical film.

But that's a movie. Why put scenes like that, or graphic violence, in a cartoon where you know it is gonna be cut and therefore missed by 90% of the audience--Ie those who don't buy the DVDs.

They make the anime for japanese audiences. If an ocidental TV station wants to buy it and cut it so that "moms" don't sue them, it's their problem (and yes, I've heard that CN had some problems with FLCL even though they censored some of it, some moms complained about it).

Right. I'm sure they had no idea that Frieza stabbing krillin with his horn, shaking him around and then drinking his blood would hit the cutting room floor.

Unless, as I said before, that scense like that arent' cut in Japan.

Kids that cannot handle FLCL shouldn't be up at 1:30 in the first place

I don't know what FLCL is, other than an anime oft imitated by Teen Titans, and I only know that from the TVtome show guide.

I'll agree that some sensoring is way overboard though, like removing the impacts from blows in fight scenes. *shakes head again*
Plus, in the CN run of Dragon Ball, they cut out the Death Scene of Piccolo Diamouh so that it looked like Goku just flew up, punched him in the gut, causing a huge explosion and killing him.

That wouldn't be so insulting if they hadn't shown the scene in its entirety in SEVERAL epsiodes of DBZ as a flashback.

The only time I remember something getting cut on Japan was when Tokyo TV reduced Neon genesis Evangelion's budget because the series was not going on the direction they wanted to. Other than that, they are pretty liberal towards violence and sex on anime.

They can show graphic depictions of dead bodies on CSI, but oh no there can't be the frame where the punch makes contact.
