Like others here, I’ll be treating myself to a re-watch of the saga in some manner before ‘The Force Awakens’ opens. And I’m still finding it hard to get my head around the fact that in less than a month now, we’ll be getting to see a Star Wars movie which is a ‘continuation’ of the events seen in ‘Return Of The Jedi’…complete with the original main cast members, and all-new John Williams score! I mean, it just seems like the other day that I was completely shocked to hear that George had actually ‘sold off’ his creation to Disney…and now the first movie is just around the corner.
I feel the same way. It is impossible for me to comprehend. The original trilogy is something that has been with me for practically my whole life. Hard to believe that I’m now getting new adventures with my favorite characters in a galaxy far, far away.
I’ve been getting prepped for a long while now, which has included reading books and comics and watching a variety of different things (Clone Wars, special features, films that inspired SW, films SW inspired). I’ve actually seen all three of the originals twice each so far this year (once through with friends, the other with DVD commentary) and might watch them again multiple times before TFA. Just one marathon will not be enough. I will eventually post everything SW related that I consumed before TFA when I finally see it, but for now, here is my plan of action regarding the marathon I’ll do immediately before:
- The Phantom Menace (Blu-ray)
- Attack of the Clones (Blu-ray)
- Revenge of the Sith (Blu-ray)
- Star Wars (Despecialized)
- The Empire Strikes Back (Despecialized)
- Return of the Jedi (Despecialized)
As much as I believe the films should be watched in release order (or at least Machete/Rister order), I want to save the best for last, and of course there is a sense to doing it chronologically. Also, I’ve decided that, while I prefer fan edits, I want to see them all as the were theatrically (which, now that I’m thinking of it, I should probably get a Phantom Menace theatrical preservation). Unlike some I don’t feel the need to gauge my eyes out watching the theatrical PT and I actually have some nostalgia related to those films as well as the OT.
If I get the chance (unlikely), I might try to do a Machete/Rister viewing beforehand, which would be mostly fan edits (Ady’s IV, Harmy’s V, Hal’s I & II, L8’s III [or my own hybrid if I get off my ass in time], Spence’s VI).
