General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread — Page 211

Jeez, I’m glad you guys aren’t running the show at Lucasfilm. Creating an alternate timeline where SW and ESB are the only things that count would be insane. You don’t just hit the reset button after one subpar installment. Making good movies from now on is the thing to do, not trying to fix what happened thirty years ago. I’m against redoing the prequels for the same reason. “Move forward” should be the mantra (but not like, always literally, because I want to see stuff set all over the timeline).

I also don’t understand this attitude that a lot of people have that Return of the Jedi is some kind of deal-breaker. Yeah, it’s worse than the first two (if Star Wars and Empire are A’s, I give Jedi a B minus). But so what? Does it really only take one misfire for something like this to be over? What if Empire sucked and Jedi was a return to form? Would everyone have bailed on the series before finding out? I understand that it doesn’t seem like it because it’s been the end point for decades, but the fact is it’s just one middling entry in a series with high highs and low lows. Such a thing as “minor Star Wars” can exist without sinking the franchise.

We still have a 13:1 ratio of good to bad in this franchise. No amount of ranting will improve ROTJ or make it perfect, and it’s falling short is the worst disaster ever. Star Wars will never be good again; why, why, why did this happen?

Whoa, high standards! Most would say that a 13:1 ratio of good to bad is pretty darn good. 😉

Damn it, I meant a 1:13 ratio of good years to bad!

For me the only things keeping ROTJ from being PT level bad are Ian McDiamid and Mark Hamill.
I think the PT and ROTJ could have been good films equal to ESB but George’s yes men ruined it. He needed someone to counter his goofier ideas and his apathy to quality after things got really rocky with Marcia.
Star Wars made serious toy money (nothing wrong with that) but the merchandise came from the first two films it started to star in the third one and took over the prequels for which it was the main reason for those films to exist.
I think there are some good things to be salvaged from ROTJ and the PT it’s why I’m looking forward to them getting the Adywan treatment much more than the first two projects.
They are the most broken so there is nothing to be lost by trying to fix them from an alternative fan viewing perspective. I would preserve the theatrical cuts of all the movies because of their unique cultural impact. I’d preserve The Room for much the same reason.

I remember when I considered ROTJ my favourite SW movie.

Oh God, how I miss those days.

I’m not sure this thread can get any worse than frevious and sockcucker motherfucker arguing with each other.

Sockcucker’s banned, so we don’t have to worry about him anymore (At least not until his next incarnation.).

I don’t know if this: http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-11-17/its-taken-13-years-but-someone-has-finally-spotted-the-matrix-easter-egg-in-star-wars-attack-of-the-clones has been raised here before but I thought it was fun

I was shocked. Do you know what this means?!? It means someone must have watched AOTC twice!

I’ve seen AOTC more than twice (Don’t judge me too harshly. I was younger and stupider at the time.).

I’ve seen it far more times than I’d like to admit…

They’ve released a trailer for the new steelbook re-release of the blu-rays.
All of the top comments are demands for the theatrical versions.

It brings warm feelings to my heart.

The flashes of the theatrical posters are so much more attractive than the actual covers. They should have just done that.

I was looking at the Original Trilogy steelbooks in a shop the other day. You can’t see the back of the tin because of card information slip. Some young teen said “Have you got these yet? You need to watch all six films in a row they are really great”. Then they were gone before I had chance to defend myself and the honor of this website and the theatrical cuts. Bah !

I would’ve just guffawed. Curious to see his reaction then.

Yeah, good call. A loud laugh in the direction he was heading might have stopped him in his tracks.

Okay, that was funny!

I wanted to get a better look at that Chewbacca sketch though. 😉
