If ANH was the only film

How would you write sequels and/or prequels to it? Would Yoda exist? Would The Emperor be a Force-user like he is in the other 5 movies or would he be the figurehead described in the ANH novelization? Would the Lars's homestead be where Luke's father grew up? Would green lightsabers exist?

It's hard to imagine a Star Wars saga without a Yoda equivalent. Luke needs a new teacher after the death of Obi-Wan, unless he's to rediscover the secrets of the Force mostly by himself (that would take decades of solitude and meditation... transforming him into a hermit monk, much like... well, Yoda). I'd give Luke an ancient, wise Jedi master to guide him, be that Yoda or some new character with many of the same qualities as our favorite little alien.

As for a figure to guide Luke, it was explicitly established that after he was “struck down” by Vader, that Obi Wan would become “more powerful”, and this is manifest as he continues to speak to the young Skywalker, as a disembodied voice, at crucial moments. So, it would make sense, and also remain in continuity, for Obi Wan to keep guiding Luke in such a manner.

Notice that ANH and ESB never say who Anakin’s master was. They only say that Vader was Obi-Wan’s apprentice. It would be interesting if Yoda was Anakin’s master. In fact, in the Brackett draft of ESB, the Luke/Anakin lightsaber has the coordinates to Dagobah stored on it. This makes me think that Brackett intended for Yoda to be Anakin’s master. After Obi-Wan and Anakin complete their training, Obi-Wan, arrogant in his ability to be a master, trains Vader, and the rest is history. It would also be interesting if Yoda warned Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Vader not to get involved in the Clone Wars, but they ignore Yoda’s warning.

I mean, it’s kind of implied that if Vader is Anakin, and Obi-Wan taught Vader, Obi-Wan probably taught Anakin. So it’s not like they never say that in ESB.

Definitely interesting. I’d love to see something like this fleshed out.
