If I recall correctly, Episode 3 never got a official VHS release.
Haven’t seen anything like this released and would love to see these and potentially use them for my analog sourced saga releases.
Preferred Saga:
1,2: Numeraljoker extended
3: L8wrtr
4,6-9: Hal9000
5: Adywan

It was released on VHS in Europe. Not sure if it was letterboxed or not.
Where were you in '77?
I have a 640x288 copy of the original theatrical version of ROTS. It’s not VHS, but it would be something different?

In the UK, the only PT entry that received an official W/S VHS release was TPM. Lucasfilm only officially offered British consumers P&S versions of AOTC and ROTS on VHS.
“Logic is the battlefield of adulthood.”
In my country they released AOTC and ROTS on VHS only in widescreen.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.
Which country LexX? I’ve had difficulty finding a RotS case picture with a widescreen label.
yotsuya, I’d love a copy to take a look at. Any idea what the source is?

Finland, and actually I’ve been meaning to put it up for sale on eBay.

Is it foreign language track or is it subtitled?

Subtitled.

Are the subs in the letterbox area?

Oh a Finnish guy! Terve! 😄
I’ve only encountered ROTS VHS twice in my life. Never bought it even though I had a chance. It’s probably as rare as the Finnish Widescreen VHS of TPM. You can sell the ROTS VHS to me if you want. PM if interested.

I haven’t watched it in 10 years but I think the first line is on the picture, second on letterbox area.

Tere! ROTS is more rare than TPM in WS, after retail I’ve seen ROTS for sale maybe four times. TPM WS I see almost every year in flea markets. Also, PM sent.

Interesting! I’m in the UK where widescreen VHS releases had always been relatively common (especially in the case of Star Wars) but when the UK AOTC VHS was P&S only (yet the deleted scenes are W/S!), I assumed Lucasfilm had given the middle finger to analogue home video. (They even had an online disclaimer at one stage about the TPM LD…)
If you still have the Finnish AOTC VHS, can you please share some scans of the box sleeve? 😃

I do (unfortunately), I don’t have a scanner anymore but here’s how it looks.
ROTS broke the consistency. First they released TPM in P&S and WS and AOTC in WS. TPM P&S has the vertical photo on the front cover, TPM WS and AOTC have the widescreen photo + the text widescreen. ROTS has the vertical photo and no mention about widescreen, even though it is.

Thank you! That’s more than adequate. I always enjoy seeing rare/curious stuff like this. 😃
Just a thought but it might be worth sending that image to Star Wars on Video so they can update the AOTC VHS category. http://swonvideo.com/vhs/vhsforside.htm

Thanks for the shout-out, but for the moment my site is for displaying items in my personal collection only.

In the future it may change into something which catalogues all items in existence, regardless of whether I own them or not, but I have enough trouble updating as it is 😃
