A RAID 1 array of reliable 3-5TB drives totaling about 25TB would probably be best for now, until SSD prices go down. You’re still generally better protected with SSDs than HDDs, and SSDs are only getting better, where HDDs are only getting bigger.

Personally I find that Samsung’s HDDs are good, but I only have one 500GB drive and two 1TB drives from them, so… it’s hard to say.

It is tricky, individual experience doesn’t count for a lot as they are so mass produced.
I have owned 9 Samsung spinning hard drives over the past 4 years, and my old workplace had 19 of them. Every single one of them has died. The Samsung SSDs I have been using over the past few years haven’t missed a beat, but I’m sure someone out there has had a catastrophic experience with any of the storage manufacturers we could care to name.

Alternatively, a company can make a giant SSD dock that keeps them powered on and not much else.

Or simply place a rechargeable battery inside the SSD.

I guess SSDs will be cheaper and bigger in capacity in a few years, I won’t be surprise if by 2015 we start seeing 2.5’’ 4TB SSD drives for $200 or less!

With only 9 weeks of 2015 left, and the current 2TB SSDs clocking in at USD750 at the cheaper end, I can’t see 4TB of SSD for $200 happening in the next two months 😃
Would be nice though.

Oh damn, I meant 2017! Short circuit there, sorry.

SSDs will improve their technology and those hiccups will be ironed out; I remember back in 2010 I bought a massive-heavy 3.5’’ USB 2.0 2TB with an extra A/C adapter for $200 and I replaced it a few months ago with a slim-light 2.5’’ USB 3.0 2TB with no A/C requirement for $85. I’m sure we’ll see in a couple of years faster and more reliable SSDs with huge storage capacity under $100! I bet the transfer speeds will definitively benefit heavy video/audio work like restorations.

I’m going to disappear for the next week or so, my little girl has been in hospital for a few days, and they can’t work out what is wrong, and she is getting worse, so we are being transferred to Sydney (4 hours or so away), so I’ll be offline in analogue world for a while.

So sorry to hear that. I hope the doctors in Sydney figure it out quickly and she’s well again soon.

Good luck poita to you and your little girl!

Thanks everyone, the change in hospitals has been delayed by a day, pending some test results, so we are hoping that they may shed some light.

Will keep your whole family in my prayers Poita, that they can figure out what is the matter with your daughter, and can bring her back to good health, and continue to pray that you are gaining strength and feeling better as well.

Hello from Argentina! Very excited about this project, I personally found this impressive, and it’s amazing all the hard work and love put into this.
I’ve watched ESB from the Grindhouse release and has been an incredible experience. I didn’t stop wondering “Why? Why they had to do all those changes?..”

Also want to wish Poita’s daughter a quick and full recovery. Very sad to hear about that.

Sorry for being so naive, but can someone tell me how many prints of ANH remain? I would love to start searching for one in my country, but don’t know where to start.

Thanks again to all of you for your hard work!

I have a bad feeling about this…

The first two are on one of the LD’s right at the start of the clip of the falcon in hyperspace. Those frames aren’t in the GOUT, EU broadcast, DVD, or BR.

… nor Puggo GRANDE, nor Stjärnornas Krig,
nor poita’s Super8, nor mverta’s color ref.
Methinks you’re chasing somebody’s IVTC error

Get well soon poita’s baby girl!

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Yes. I finally found the comparison and I had misremembered which spot it was in. That spot was where one of my copies was missing 2 frames. The real spot was from where it cuts from Owen and Beru in the kitchen to Luke and C-3PO in the speeder and my older copy of the JSC has 4 extra frames in there.

No one knows.

If you do, search for ESB as it is the film released after IBs were discontinued and there are no known LPPs (IIRC), only rumoured that there might be LPPs. Faded or not, if you come across any I’m sure p. would like to know about them. You could keep an eye on ebay for a start, and look for any film collectors/enthusiasts in your area; they might have a print they would be willing lend even if it’s not for sale. You could even ask around vintage movie theatres that screen older 35mm prints, or film archives.
