Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 560

Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I'm putting on a private event in a cinema Dublin, Ireland where we'll be screening the whole DE trilogy.

If anyone on here will be in Ireland on the 13th of December, PM me for an invitation. I'd love to see some OT.com peeps there but I haven't noticed any Irish folks on these threads.

I'm looking to burn BDs from the MKVs as backups in case there are playback issues on the day. I'm a linux user and I wonder if someone hre could point me in the right direction to linux tools for generating the file structure and burning the result to disk.

If you have any tips, can you PM me as I don't want to take the thread (further) off-topic.

Cheers

This may belong in the tech tips section since it's a calibration question, but it relates specifically to the Despecialized Edition, so I figured maybe someone here has experienced the same issue. I've got two TVs that I watch movies on, a Samsung 1080p 50" LED smart tv in the living room and a Samsung 720p 42" plasma in the basement (this is where the bulk of my Star Wars viewing occurs out of courtesy to the family). The DE looks spectacular on the LED display, but on the plasma the seams between the different elements are super obvious and distracting. Does the plasma just produce an intrinsically harsher image, or might there be a fix for this in the screen settings? I'm currently using this guy's settings, and I've made a blu ray from the MKV.

I think it probably does belong in the tech section. But I wouldn't simply use someone else's settings for color calibration. If you don't want to get a colorimeter, you can use those settings as a starting place perhaps, but don't be surprised if it needs tweaking.

I've tried the values people post for my TV model, and they're atrocious for mine (and in the opposite directions from default settings compared to how I've actually got it calibrated now).

But yes, the 'seams' between sources can stand out more with some settings than others.

IME, both tsmuxerGUI and ImgBurn work in Wine, and I think there's a Linux native version of tsmuxerGUI.  So you should just be able to follow the Windows directions, without much modification.

And hey, I might as well ask--if you know any Irish language enthusiasts, who might be up to making subtitles for any reason at all--throw them my way.  The more the merrier.

Thanks. I actually just found that native linux version of TSmuxer and am excited to get stuck in.

As for Irish language, I'll look into it. It's an interesting idea. We are an English-speaking country but there are many people who place a high importance on the language and work to further it's usage. To my knowledge, this social group does not have a big crossover with Star Wars fans but I'll ask around.

My experience is language geeks are always looking for an excuse ;)

That and from a language preservation/educational point-of-view, you could do a lot worse than Star Wars.  That was the rationale behind the Navajo dub, I think.

Haven't been around in years, so please forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this, but...

Would it be possible for someone to mail me blu-ray copies of Harmy's Despecialized Editions of the 3 original films?  I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far.

I'd only be paying for the cost of the discs and shipping, so I'm assuming this should be kosher, as I own the special edition blu-ray edition.

Anyone interested is welcome to PM me.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question. If it is, please point me in the right direction.

I’m having some trouble choosing the right playback settings, using VLC with the .mkv file. No matter how I adjust the aspect ratio, cropping, etc., it seems like some of the edges are being cut off. The main problem is that the longer subtitles are incomplete due to some words running off the screen.

Is there something I’m missing in the settings menu?

Where can I find Dutch subtitles (srt-files) ?

Just wanted to pop in and leave a HUGE thanks here. My girlfriend had never seen any Star Wars movie, and I told her the only way we’d break her in would be by watching the VHS tapes…luckily it didn’t come to that thanks to these HARMY DE’s! She seemed to really enjoy Star Wars, but like a lot of women (jk), she has an issue sitting still and paying attention, so she only stuck around for the first movie.

I’ve got an Optima GT750 Projector, only does 720, but still absolutely fantastic, a 10 foot screen, and a damn fine surround sound system, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience. I’m writing this now as I take a short break in between Empire and Jedi and I can’t thank you enough. I’m going to finish the trilogy tonight, and watch Empire and Jedi again with my GF in the next week or so, then JUST before ep 7 comes out I’m inviting my older brother (the guy who introduced me to SW) up for a surprise viewing of these editions.

It’s important work you all are doing here!
Bringing family and loved ones together.
Cheers!

“Sev’s Despecialized Sets does not distribute for profit. All material costs are accounted for and applied to items.
We are simply sharing amazing preservations given to us as fans of Star Wars in a tangeable format that compliments your already desirable home video collection.”

A box, a disc, a cover, and shipping somehow cost $25.

The nerve of some people.

Well, fortunately they’re stupid enough to use paypal. Reporting them might work, and paypal is known to obnoxiously freeze people’s assets (which would be great in this situation).

I already reported the site some time ago (someone pointed it to me earlier on FB). Maybe if lots of people are reporting it, FB will take more notice.

FB probably won’t care. Paypal will, eventually.

I can’t see it. What’s the cover? If it’s one of mine, I’m going to sue them!

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

Never mind. Downloaded CCCP and that’s fixed the issue.

Good luck with that.

Well it’s not one of mine, so whatever. But this is a worry… something should be done!

We can also just report him to this ‘freewebstore’ company and they might freak out and close him down. But I’m sure he would just pop back up, and freezing his paypal account would be much more satisfying.

Why not… do both?
