I’m pretty excited for Rogue One too, and the Han Solo picture, but the sooner they can step away from prequels, the better. The fact that they have a whole universe to play with means they shouldn’t be focusing on small events that tie directly into previous films. But I like to think they know this too, which just means that Rogue One will be killer enough to justify the somewhat redundant story. At the very least it is certainly shaping up to be very different tonally from the main films, which is good.
What I DO NOT want to see is a Yoda film, as has been rumored here and there. What I do want to see, and we surely will get, is a Boba Fett film. Forget his bloated fanbase. He’s an interesting and mysterious character who was shown briefly in Empire (and, of course, subsequently lost all of his potential for coolness in his other appearances) - the perfect subject for a spin-off, especially considering the possibilities of a “Man with No Name” type film in space. Let’s hope it’s done right.
Films set during the OT would be nice. I know it’s a prequels and people hate it, but it would be interesting to see Coruscant under Imperial rule. It is sort of odd that we don’t see the Imperial capital at all in the OT. Would be a cool location for a GCW film (if they keep the politics out of it or at least to a minimum).
A Boba Fett spinoff film has more potential than people think. For example, take his crappy shoe horned origin story in Attack of the Clones. Imagine if your dad was decapitated and then cloned. The clones wouldn’t recognize you. How would you feel about that? Take the fact that most stormtroopers are human in The Force Awakens. Did the clones expire after a while? Does that mean that Boba Fett(being a clone) has a limited time to live? Maybe Boba Fett has to constantly deal with people who hate the Empire recognizing him as a clone. It would explain why he never shows fear when facing Darth Vader(because he kinda hates him). Maybe Boba Fett doesn’t redeem himself until after the Sarlacc Pit, and it can be this epic that spans his lifetime until death.
You’re right about keeping it as far away from the prequels as possible, so maybe we shouldn’t get an Obi Wan movie since it would have to create drama that was never shown during the prequels and explain why Obi Wan lied to Luke about both the Force and his father. So I guess the movie I really want is an Old Republic movie. Is there any reference to this time period in the prequels or the Clone Wars?
EDIT:It’s also possible there might be spinoffs about the new characters. Kylo Ren anyone?
