I have to say, I’m extremely pleased to see it confirmed that the trailer music was not arranged by Williams. I thought it worked well enough for a trailer, and I adore the fact that they dusted off the love theme, but it would have been a serious bummer if those arrangements were indicative of the sound of the actual score. I’m not a fan of that kind of drum-heavy style at all.

While not as good as Williams’s work, I liked the music. Gives me some hope for the non-Williams films like Rogue One, etc.

Oh, hearing something like this in an anthology film wouldn’t bother me at all. I just don’t want it in a mainline saga film.

After seeing the trailer I also wondered about who was responsible for the new trailer’s music. The piano notes that played during the first few shots did not feel at all like William’s or Star Wars to me. At first I thought it was tracked music from some other recent score. Good to know that may not even be heard in the film. I’m not resistant to new themes, styles or composers in the stand alone films, as long as it’s not jarring or bland. I just listed to the soundtrack of “Superman Returns” the other day, and that was a great blend of John Williams’s established themes interwoven with a new original score by a different composer. I feel that Superman II-IV all did a good job in that respect. Again, I’m not worried as long as it’s a good composer / arranger working on theses stand alone films.
