have the ANH sountrack on two LPs, but no functional record player to play it on. I'd LOVE to put that as an alternate soundtrack on my DVD.

I've got a Technics SL 1200 and Adobe Audition..and the two disc LP release from 77. Found it for 6 bucks at a Goodwill here in town Thing is--the exact same recordings are on the CD box set from 95, AND the SE releases, except they sound better due to the remastering. There's really no reason to capture audio from the LP's. 20th Century Fox records (the 95 box set) and Michael Matessino (the SE re-release) have already cleaned up the sound for you.

Now, what would REALLY be a cool isolated score feature, would be to replace the Williams score with the Charles Gerhardt recordings of selections from Star Wars that were released on Varese Sarabande record label throughout the late 70's and early 80's. Some of those versions, dare I say, are BETTER than the original score..especially Gerhardt's renditions of the Empire Strikes Back score. GREAT stuff in there. "Han Solo and the Princess" is especially heartbreaking, and he managed to IMPROVE on "The Asteroid Field"

timing would be a bitch, though, as the tempos were generally slower. I'm sure you could time-stretch the songs to get them to play faster without altering the pitch, but even then, it might simply be easier to put the tracks where they were intended to go and let them play out regardless of whether they match with the action onscreen or not.
