WITHOUT A PADDLE REVIEW

NOT A BAD DVD. THERE ARE TWO COMMENTARIES ONE OF WHICH IS A VIDEO COMMENTARY WITH THE DIRECTOR AND STARS. IT REMINDED ME OF MST3K. OF COURSE, THIS IS ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE MOVIES THAT'S NOT MADE FOR DYNAMIC SOUND, BUT THE SOUND QUALITY IS GREAT. THE DELETED SCENES WERE GREAT, BUT IT MAKES THE VIEWER WONDER WHY THEY WEREN'T KEPT IN THE MOVIE. YOU ALSO GET ALTERNATE SCENES. ALL IN ALL IT'S A PRETTY GOOD DVD.

THIS IS A RENTAL/BUY.

WHAT A NICE SEEN IT A THOUSAND TIMES BEFORE CONCEPT THIS MOVIE WAS. THE DVD PRESENTATION WAS LACKLUSTER AT BEST. I REALLY EXPECTED MORE OUT OF AN M. NIGHT SHAYMALAN DVD. SPECIAL FEATURES ??? NOT REALLY. YOU GET A FEW DELETED SCENES, A DIART BY ONE OF THE CAST MEMBERS, AND A SLIDE SHOW. YOU ALSO GET A DIRECTOR'S COMMENTARY. SOUND AND PICTURE ARE GREAT, AND THIS IS A MOVIE THAT HAS AMBIENT SOUNDS THROUGHOUT WHICH THE 5.1 HELPS PUT THE VIEWER IN THE THICK OF THINGS.

THIS IS A RENTAL AT BEST.

PAPARAZZI REVIEW

I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT OUT OF ALL OF THE SPECIAL FEATURES THE DIRECTOR'S COMMENTARY IS THE BEST. THE NOW DIGITAL 5.1 SURROUND SOUND IS NICE ALONG WITH PICTURE QUALITY. IT DID HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF A PAUSE DURING THE LAYER CHANGE EVEN ON THE BEST PLAYER. I MENTION THIS ONLY BECAUSE MOST MOVIES HAVE THE PAUSE, BUT THIS ONE WAS LONGER THAN USUAL.

THIS IS A RENTAL.

What's it matter?

We can allready eliminate every G, PG, R, and NC-17 movie ever released, plus every recent movie... Or we could just look it up on IMDb.

I will if I'm home then, but I might not be home until well after six, because my brother's got a basket ball game.

Wait.. what time did you say? Six... but in what Time Zone? If it's six central... then I might be home by Seven.

So, who got the right answer?

It was The Temple of Doom, right?

So when you gonna post the answer

DAYV, it was Red Dawn, if I'm not mistaken. The Flamingo Kid was the first film given a PG-13, but Red Dawn was the first released.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

he said to send him the answer...so i figured he wanted a pm, hence why i edited my post, but thats what i said as well...Temple of Doom had a PG rating. It was in response to Gremlins (and possibly Temple of Doom as well) that the PG-13 rating was created.

at least as far as my understanding goes, but im sure DAYV could confirm this and probably even give more information.

TEMPLE OF DOOM WAS ORIGINALLY RATED R BY THE MPAA, BUT SS AND GL WENT TO THE HEAD OF THE MPAA TO CHANGE THEIR MINDS. THEY WORKED OUT A NEW RATING WHICH WAS TO BE PG-14, BUT THE MPAA DECIDED THAT 13 WOULD BE OKAY. THEREFORE, TOD RECEIVED THE FIRST PG-13 RATING EVER.

But most people call it a PG movie these days.

According to IMDb...

Red Dawn's US release date was August 10, 1984
The Flamingo Kid's US release date was December 21, 1984
Indiana Jones' US release date was May 23, 1984

However, IMDb's site lists the rating for IJ/Temple to be PG (Click here and scroll down to "Also Known As" and on the last line you'll see the rating "USA: PG")

For the longest time, I was under the impression that Dreamscape was the first PG-13 film (August 15, 1984), but Red Dawn beat it by 5 days apparently.

Here's real trivia for you, John Wayne's "Big Jake" (1971) is rated PG-13 as well. So is Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" (1963).
"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is 'Never get involved in a land war in Asia'."

UNDER THE REVISED RATINGS SYSTEM TEMPLE OF DOOM, BIG JAKE, THE BIRDS, AND MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THEIR RATINGS CHANGED. RED DAWN AND THE FLAMINGO KID WERE RELEASED BEFORE TEMPLE OF DOOM, BUT TOD GOT THE RATING FIRST. THE TRIVIA QUESTION HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHICH ONE WAS RELEASED FIRST JUST WHICH MOVIE RECEIVED THE RATING FIRST. SINCE THIS COULD BE A HUGE DEBATE WE WILL HAVE A DEFAULT CONTEST. WE'LL PLAY SIX DEGREES OF KEVIN BACON. YOU MUST LINK ME TO KEVIN BACON. THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE HARD UNLESS YOU'VE BEEN ON HERE FOR A WHILE. TO MAKE IT FAIR I'LL GIVE EVERYBODY A HUGE CLUE. I'M MARRIED TO THE COUSIN OF HOOKER NUMBER TWO IN THE MOVIE FARGO. FIRST PERSON TO SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE WINS. THERE WILL ALSO BE A SECOND AND THIRD PLACE PRIZE OF MY CHOOSING. GOOD LUCK.
