Oh yeah. That's the part I forgot to mention: my Gamcube is at my house, but acursed joint custody prevents me from playing it until I go home monday night.

For a change of pace, check this out. This is really starting to bug me. If Nintendo does something stupid and alienates their base, then I might just avoid the Revolution alltogether. When is Iwata gonna realize that innovation may not be a good idea. Sony and Mircrosoft are sucsessful because of their shameless borrowing of Nintendo's ideas, not because they take risks.

Just think if Nintendo had gotten the D pad and Analog stick patented...

Don't be so pessimistic.

I seriously hope I'm wrong, here. Just imagine the day Zelda requires one button and a rolly-ball to move Link?

Not that Nintendo was so much doing a bunch of things wrong... It's just that they are unwilling to do things that appeal to the mass media and to developers.

Like M rated games, DVD compatablity, ect.

1. Just because we're older doesn't mean we still can' enjoy a good E rated game.

2. More than growing up, now it seems that younger gamers all just play crappy spongebob squarepants games so that games that are actually good such as Advance Wars or Super Mario Sunshine fall by the wayside comparatively. It almost seems like younger kids are less savvy. I played SuperMarioBros all the time when I was five, but now kids addicted to spongebob will complain that it's too hard.

Yeesh.

Well, I think video games is a market where consumers dictate to the manufacturers what they want, and the manufacturers compete to see who can come closest creating the 'ideal' platform. Unfortunately, Nintendo is either in denial, or is totally oblivious to this idea. They think they can dictate to the general public what they need/want, and that people will just eat it up. And it obviously doesn't work that way. I'm sorry, but I agree with you guys that if Nintendo doesn't drastically alter their business model/philosophy, they are going to go the way of Sega - and soon. I just don't understand what goes through their heads. Sheesh.

And what was the deal with that guy's speech on the Revolution? I'm hoping that it was just hype/nonsense.

I know what you mean...

Which was my point earlier, that Nintendo can make all the E-rated games they want... But if they start making simple crap to 'attract a new market' then I might have to forgoe aquisition of the Revolution.

That's the tenative title for now.

Might as well call it that until they give an official name.

I think it would be ideal for a console to have a balance of material, but Nintendo is far too E-tastic. And because of this, they fall into a vicious cycle where consumers see the GC as a 'kiddie console' (whether or not it is, is up for debate), so they go with a PS2/Xbox instead. Then the developers see that there isn't a demand for M-rated content on the GC, so they develope for the other consoles, so then there's even less M-rated content, and then even more people buy PS2/Xbox. They're just digging themselves a hole.

I don't know. THe GC started with it's first system seller's, SSBM and Rogue Leader being rated T...

And it had two excellent M-Rated games within a year: Eternal Darkness and the RE remake. I think it's more perception than anything. XBox is periceived as cool. After all, it has the most power, so it has to be the best system, right? But graphics and gore don't make games. The Xbox had only one game worth buying it for at launch--and for most of it's first year.

THe GC had two at launch, and two more by June. Only perception that Halo was somehow superior itself to several quailty games saved the Xbox.

I agree, but perception can be everything.

True.

It's the only way MTV stays relevant. Speaking of that, Nintendo's relationship with MTV is probably why they did so poorly this time around.

Its sad when you have to rely on MTV to bring in the revenue, I applaud Nintendo for holding fast and not "selling out" though.

I don't think that was ever their intention...

The just thought that advertising on MTV would give the GC 'street cred' and it mostly just made them look retarted. People who actually like what's on MTV would rather play the Sims or Leisure Suit Larry than The Wind Waker.

They wouldn't want to play the sims, they'd want to play Britney's Dance Beat or the Monster Garage game.

Yeah, those too.

They only play 'cool' games--ones based on 'cool' existing properties not naturally associated with gaming.
That's how things like "Smackdown hear comes the pain" gets fighting game of the year against VF4 Evolution and Soul Calibur II at Spike TV's awards.

Hearcomes the pain isn't even a fighting game.
