Besides, DVD isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Any HD disc format is going to be niche oriented before gaining mass acceptance. Everyone assumes that HD will be adopted as quickly as DVD, but because the cash outlay is so massive to achieve any discernible benefit (my guess is around $750 to $1500 for a player plus a minimum $1000 investment in display equipment, plus the fact that HD discs are going to carry at least a 30% price premium over regular DVDs), I'd say it's going to take a minimum of 10 years to reach current DVD levels.
