No, I was talking about Yoda. It seriously could have been a prop sitting on his knee. Just like those are prop versions of R2, 3PO and Vader.

Well, you know George cannot let his past vision of Yoda obscure his new CGI one.

Very true. God forbid anybody ruin GL's current "vision" (or as I like to say, "blindness"), right?

And by the way, I prefer the puppet version, even tough I belive his mouth could have moved a little bit better.

Models and puppets should allways be used unless the shot is impossible without CG.

I agree. What's cool though is that GL used to not buy into the "impossibility" of certain shots and still managed to find a way to make them work well before the days of CG. Where did that creativity go?

"Luke I am your father."

I think he used all he had up with the first film and then that plot twist.

That bugs me too because it's such a classic line and everyone gets it wrong. There is a no in there. IMO it's an essential part of the line. yeah.

Much like the oft-misquoted "Play it again" line from Casablanca. Everybody keeps saying "Play it again, Sam." But this is the real exchange between Sam and Ilsa...

Quote

Ilsa: Play it once, Sam. For old times' sake.
Sam: [lying] I don't know what you mean, Miss Ilsa.
Ilsa: Play it, Sam. Play "As Time Goes By."

And for those of you thinking, "no, the line was uttered by Bogart," here's his similar exchange with Sam...

Quote

Rick: You know what I want to hear.
Sam: [lying] No, I don't.
Rick: You played it for her, you can play it for me!
Sam: [lying] Well, I don't think I can remember...
Rick: If she can stand it, I can! Play it!

There were more models used in TPM than in the entirety of the Original Trilogy. And the number of models has gone UP with each movie.

People get so caught up in playing "Spot the CGI" they end up picking things that aren't even computerized.

I know it's gone up, but by comparison, the CG has gone up in exponentially greater numbers. I want him to stick with the models and puppets. The two don't blend together well.

Actually the dialogue goes like this

Rick: You know what I want to hear.
Sam: [lying] No, I don't.
Rick: You played it for her, you can play it for me!
Sam: [lying] Well, I don't think I can remember...
Rick: If she can stand it, I can! Play it!
Sam: Uh... Are you SURE, Mr. Bogart? Uh I mean Rick?
Rick: YES! Play it!
Sam: Ok, here goes nothing... "one two three four... You think you've got it, oh, you think you've got it, but got it just don't get it until theres's nothing at aaaaall.. HEeey Ya, heeey ya"
Rick: *bangs his hand on the piano, stopig him* No you MORON! I mean the OTHER song...
Sam: ... Ooooh. Ok. "A kiss ins just a kiss, a..."

Well.........

Because we had a baby boy born on the 21st, I've had a lot of time off work (actually I go back on Thursday) so I've started to show my son the ways of the force..actually it's given me a lot of time to watch the DVD's again, and watch them with the commentary...and listen to the soundtracks...start 'em young....God I love being a dad:

Anyway.......

The point is..well there's two, but one of the things I've noticed while watching 'Empire of dreams' again is that all Lucas is trying to do is make the best films possible. So the best way he can do that is by using CGI instaed of puppets. It's obvious he was never happy with some of the puppets that were created.
One of the things he actually says is that he cannot get what he wants by just using puppets.
I know some of the CGI looks fake, but fuck me, some of the puppets look even worse..(Gammorean Gaurds for example).
I don't think it's the CGI thats bad,I think it's in the context in which they are being used that's shit.
Ok not all the time, sometimes the CGI is terrible, but I just don't think that in this day and age, he'd be able to get away with using just puppets.

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, but the lack of sleep is starting to get to me!

The other point is....

While watching the commentary on Jedi, there was a bit about Ewoks.
Now I wish Jimbo was still around (in the words of Jimbo.."How can the fucking Ewoks over-power the Clones Blah Blah), coz there was a bit were they said that although it looks like the Ewoks were beating the Empire, it was actually the Empire kicking the shit out of the Ewoks.
I think we all need to sit down a watch Jedi again. It's true, the Ewoks were getting there ass whooped. It was only when Han opened the shield door and eventually destroyed the shield generator that the Empire lost the battle. The Ewoks really only helped the Rebels, they didn't actually beat the Empire..

Man, now I'm talking shit...But you know what I mean right?

Watch the Jedi comm, and you'll see what I'm on about

Hey! I liked the Gamorrean Guards (sp?).

I can agree that the context is what is screwing up the CGI. I think if the CGI were used more in space and he were to actually create sets and characters like he once did, it would work a lot better. The problem with the new movies, IMHO, is that nothing is believable because it's all so intangible. It's not there and the lack of interaction between the live actors and the setting and characters around them shows as a result. None of the actors "touch" anything around them because, when filming a scene, nothing is there for them to see to be able to touch. And everything has this sterile and impersonal feel to me as a result. GL just got lazy. Plain and simple.

True, but they managed a fairly decent marriage of the two in the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.

This relates to something i've been pondering recently - By the time of the OT, are all Storm Troopers still Jango Fett clones, or has the empire started recruiting/enlisting? While Obi Wan is messing with the tractor beam on the death star we hear 2 troopers talking about a new landspeeder model on the market, just like a couple of regular joes, not purpose built clones. What does everyone else think? Ordinary people joined the Nazis during the war, why not the empire? You would get to see the galaxy, you wouldn't run the risk of them killing you cos you're one of them, and I bet they have a great retirement plan...

War does not make one great.

There are some EU stories that back this theory up. I remember the one that came with the game "Tie-Fighter", in which a friend of someone who was enlisting to be a tie-fighter pilot wanted to join the empire and become a stormtrooper.

For some reason, your comments didn't load up the last time I visited this thread. Only the quotes. Now they are there.

They did do it very well in LOTR, but I think it's because Peter Jackson still tried to use real people, sets, scenery, etc. whenever possible. GL would have turned the New Zealand countryside into CG.
