Special Edition guilty pleasures

I know in my heart that the CGI Jabba seen in the special edition of ANH is bad, but I've always been a fan of Han Solo, and I greatly enjoy watching Han in this scene, even though the CGI Jabba he's working with isn't fit to lick the dirt off his boots.

The altered music during the Ewok celebration at the end of ROTJ may actually be better than the original music, in light of the fact that the SE ROTJ music is more serious and more... spiritually uplifting, you might say. I cannot tolerate that Hayden Christensen ghost though.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

I actually prefer that "pseudo-Yanni" stuff to Yub Yub, though, I'd like to see if it could be used without the Coruscant / Mos Eisley / Cloud City celebrations.

I liked the new music as well, then again I only lived with the Yub-Yub song a year or two from when I first saw ROTJ until the SEs came out.

The music at the end of ROTJ is one of few changes I appreciated. Is my memory faulty, or was the original music and the theme from Fraggle Rock very similar?

I can agree that Yub Yub is not the best. But it's what I've know since I was 8 years old and saw ROTJ in theaters in 1983. So I like it. I want it back. Gimme.

Same here. And I didn't even noticed the first time I watched ROTJ - SE. I like seeing the celebrations, I always thought the scene needed to be bigger, I mean, they destroyed the empire!

It's sort of discontinous, though, since it was another few years before they retook Coruscant.

Is that as per the post ROTJ novels?

Not necessarily. Remember all those Iraqis celebrating in Baghdad when the US "took" it two years ago? We still don't have control over that region -- even with Saddam now rotting in jail.

Granted.

I think the biggest problem is that nobody who hadn't read the books new where the heck that was.

I don't know, I think those who watch the prequels will understand it...

Yeah, NOW.

But in 1997, nobody who didn't follow the EU knew what Coruscant was

Well, I belive they got it by seeing the emperor's statue getting knocked down, that that was some sort of imperial city or something. Of course they didn't know the exact name, but I don't belive it would matter to the regular audience at that moment.

It still looks totally out of place at the end of ROTJ.

Agreed. After seeing RotJ SE in '97, my dad asked me, "Was I supposed to know what that big city at the end was?" I'm sure he wasn't the only one.

I think I assumed it was Corellia, which I thought was the Capital then.

I knew it was Coruscant, but I'm not sure how I knew. When did the EU novels start publication?

Then that's likely how I knew. I did start reading some of the books and finished up maybe a half dozen or so.

The name Coruscant was first published in 1991...
Which reminds me to ask why the name "StarWars" is no where on the cover or title page of "Splinter of the Mind's Eye"

The Special Editions...

I don't miss the orange blur under Luke's speeder.
I like the fact that in the SE they fixed the snow speeders so that they are actually opaque and not see-through.
I also like the fixing of the Rancor scene...and the fact that they finally (in 2004) removed that strange blob floating next to the emperor's face.

I guess that's it.

Wipe them out...all of them.

Look real close and you'll see that they're still not completely opaque, which always bugged me. I watched 3 or 4 "making of" specials for the SE in 1997, and have three on tape that I've seen more than once. In one segment, they're talking about those shots in particular and they showed the before/after thing and I was always like "...but I can still see the AT-AT!"

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

The AT-AT legs are still there in the window frame. I don't know how they could have missed that!
