Taking a trip down memory lane here.

When I first saw TPM, at the Australian premiere, I was disappointed how unlike "Star Wars" the film was. One of the main factors that influenced this was the musical score.

A lot of the music we associate with the OT is linked to specific charactes that do not appear in the prequels, ie the Imperial March for Vader and the Emperor, Luke's theme and Leia's theme etc. I know John Williams tried to incorporate some themes from the original trilogy score into the prequel scores, such as the Imperial March as an innocent children's theme for child Anakin and the Imperial March at the end of AOTC (Palpatine on the balcony), but I still think the Prequel Trilogy could benefit with more of the OT music.

I am interested in hearing from other OT lovers, what OT music do you think would have worked well in the prequel's? The best example I can come up with is in Magnolia Fan's edit of Ep1 with the "Trench Run" music from ANH being used in the final lap of the Pod Race scene. That was brilliant and definitely enhanced that scene tremendously!

I agree, I loved that change.

I think the music with the back-up vocals right after Vader tells Luke "if you will not turn to the darkside, perhaps she will..." from ROTJ would really work great for the new Obi-Ani duel in Ep III (even though I haven't seen it yet, they might have used that segment)

I felt the same way when I first wathec TPM, the soundtrack didn't sound very "star warish". And now, after AOTC, what bothers me is that John Williams is using the "darth vader theme" (he'll most probably use it on ROTS), and it's absent on ANH...

BTW, my favorite piece from the PT is not "duel of the fates", it's "anakin's theme" from TPM. Go figure.

I kind of liked the "Duel of Fates" theme, despite the fact that it sounded like it belonged in another movie (possibly Lord of the Rings) and "Anakin's Theme". And, as much as it surprises even me, I regard the quote un quote "love/luv/lust" theme from AOTC (what did they call it, "Across the Stars"?) as a guilty pleasure. I just with the prequels were better, maybe then the newer music and possibly the older music wouldn't seem as out of place.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

"Across the Stars" was a medley of all the different themes for AOTC. Not the love theme. A lot of people call the love theme by this name, but really, "Across the Stars" was a promotional gimick for Episode II. I really didn't like it when it debuted on MTV. I thought the song was all herky jerky. Only weeks later was it clear that it was a medley. Chalk that up to MTV being full of dumbasses who don't actually report any news about a new song.

That is, when MTV actually does something music related. They don't call it eMpTV for nothing.

MTV shows music? When did this happen?
I thought they were a channel devoted to showcasing dumb-as-a-rock celebrities and their extravagant lifestyles?

Really? I thought the M stood for... Nevermind.

I thought it was a network about at showing dumb-as-a-rock normal people thrown into completely unrealistic situations in a pathetic attempt to tempt them to cheat and sleep-around, get drunk, and generally make fools of themselves.

The irony is astounding. That they'd create a spin-off network to actually show music. *shakes head ruefully*

Anyhoo, back to the topic, I actually prefer the Ep I soundtrack to the Ep VI soundtrack, on the whole. Darth Vader's death, the brother/sister theme and the final duel between Vader and Luke are all excellent musical cues, but I really did like the Duel of the Fates theme, and the flag parade theme more than anything Ewok related. Much as I hate to say it, Williams music for the Ewoks further underscored their childishness. A more mature musical theme would undoubtedly make us think a little different of them, I'm sure.

I still want an ultimate edition of Ep II.

I get MTV2 at my dad's house, and I've clearly seen periods in which no music was being shown.

My gosh, pretty soon they'll need and MTV III to show 'only music.'

Thats my favorite music from the OT too...haha...

I don't mind the PT music but it could be better.

I like the subtle music, not the big epic moments like that Vader/Luke finale in ROTJ. For instance, when Luke says "I'm a Jedi, like my father before me..." The music at that point...Sweeet.

Duel of the Fates is my favorite piece of music from SW. Second fav SW music, not from the prequel is Luke's final battle with Vader in ROTJ.

Anyone else think the version of Luke's Theme that plays when Luke is burning Vader on the pyre is probably the most emotional piece of music in all the movies?

Honestl, I think the PT soundtrack is better being urther from the OT soundtrack, especially for TPM. That movie was so unlike the other star wars movies that the different music seemd more comfortable than if they put old themes in something really diffeent.

The five best peices from the whole SW trilogy soundtracks (so far) for me have been Duel of the Fates, Vader Theme, Battle in the Snow, The Trade Federation theme, and funeral pyre music.

I like the Trade Federation theme SO much because it brings me back to when i was in middle school and first bought that ST, i loved it. Also, Duel of the Fates was my first real introduction to cool epic orchestral/choir music like that. It makes everything seem so damn awesome. Now i notice it in every movie its in and realize that it is very effective at making things dramatic.

In AotC, i was basically filled with some sort of awesome emotion when the Imperial March played right at the end when it showed the ships and clones and Palpatine. It was like at that moment the calm before the storm ended. Cool.
