Just think. If humility wasn't some kind of trait for Stormtroopers, he could have easily popped out (get your minds out of the gutters) during their escape and just blasted them all (again...) and been the Empire's new hero. He may have even been able to be promoted to Emperor's Royal Guard. There's something to strive for.
