Gotta wait until the riddle before is solved, Dayv. Just like the old Six Degrees thread we had. If you get it right, you get to ask the next one. But maybe the person who answers it will want to defer to it. So leave it up.

OK, I'm just going to roll with this now.

Three people are being interviewed for a logic professor position. There is one final test.

They are blindfolded and told either a black or a white dot will be applied to their foreheads. All three are then given a black dot. They are then sat in a circle. When the blindfold is removed they are asked to raise their hand if they see a black dot on either of the other two applicants' foreheads. (all three raise their hands).

They are then told that the first person to identify what color dot is on his own forehead and how he knows it gets the job.

THEY ARE SITTING IN A CIRCLE WHICH MEANS THAT THEY CAN SEE EACH OTHER. SINCE THEY ALL RAISED THEIR HANDS IMPLYING THAT THEY SAW A BLACK DOT ON THE OTHERS FOREHEADS THEN ONE WOULD DEDUCE THAT THERE IS A BLACK DOT ON HIS OWN FOREHEAD.

But that won't work because it says that they should raise their hands if they see a black dot on EITHER of the other two applicants heads. You know (by "you" I mean that you are the person referred to in the riddle as being the one who sees black dots on the other two people's heads) that each of them have a black dot, so really all they have to do is see each other's heads and realize that one person of the other two that they are seeing has a black dot. You yourself could have a white dot, but it doesn't matter because they each still see one person with a black dot... each other.

That's right Bossk...Each of the three has to entertain the possibility that the other two raised their hands in response to each other. ...or to say it better, regardless of what he has on his head, he knows the other two people can see at least one dot.

Here's the out of the box answer you're looking for, Bossk:
Since this is a job interview, it has to be fair. Therefore, all three of them must be answering the same question, so they all must have the same thing.

BUT, there's a real answer. Here's a hint if you want it (skip if you don't)

It is important for whoever answers to know that all three of them are skilled in logic.

I've got it!

lets calls these 3 people person A,B,C. We will look at this from the perspective of person A. Ok, the blindfolds are removed. Person A can see a black dot on both person B and C. All three people raised their hands. All three have seen atleast one black dot. If person A has a white dot, the other two people being very skilled in logic, would immediately deduce that they each had black dots. Think about it, person B sees a white dot on person A, and sees that person C raised his hand. Meaning that person C had seen a black dot. But, since person A had a white dot, the only way C could have seen a black dot is if it were on person B. If person B were skilled in logic he(person B) would immediately deduce that he(person B) had a black dot. And of course person C would do the same when he(person C) sees the white dot on person A and sees that person B raised his(person B) hand.

But we know of course they all have black dots. So, all person A would have to is wait a couple of moments to see that neither person B nor C can immediately deduce the color of their own dots and he(person A) can deduce via the lack of a deduction from either person B or C that he(person A) must have a black dot!

I believe answering the riddle correct gives me the right to ask the next riddle. If this is true, I hereby defer to Dayv's riddle which was:

I don't really understand the question...does that mean that one number must be even? If so, only one number? Or is one number a double digit number that you split and add the digits? Do all these numbers have to be different or can they be the same? Sorry. I think Simon must understand. That looks like a good answer.

I think what Dayv means by the "twin" is that a number is split (say "10") into two halves ( 5 + 5) and those two numbers are then put side by side to make a new number (55). If that is the case, then the answer is...

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5

the 2 is split into 1+1, or 11...

1 + 11 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 24

Am I right, Dayv?

While we're waiting, I'm going to post a guess.

2 3 4 5 28 - that's 5 numbers. Split the 28 into its digits:
2 2 3 4 5 8 - that's 6 numbers and twin 2s, and it adds up to 24.

But I doubt that's it. 1 2 3 8 19 would work with the same reasoning, and countless others.

This is why we need Dayv to come back in here and clarify so we can move on to a new riddle.

I'm bumping this sucker because I saw Dayv post but he didn't come here.

Anyone vote to just give it to D Simon (since he answered the question first and in a way that was a unique solution) and move on? I'm hungry for more.
